Question about Jesup, GA & Okeechobee, FL

Why does only the Silver Meteor stop in Jesup, GA and only the Silver Star stop in Okeechobee, FL? It seems like quite an arbitrary set-up.

CHI to San Diego via CZ?

I'd recommend business class on the Surfliner, you get an extra box of snacks that are good, and the box has a nice Surfliner design on it. I'd personally be OK with coach on the CS. Not sure what is offered on BC besides the water and $6 voucher (and the relative quiet). Also, you'll be...

    Exact routing to Roanoke

The TE's approach to SAS and the Cardinal east of Charlottesville is this way I believe.

CS service advisory this week (10/26); Techachapi detour??

Wow, UP thru San Joaquin Valley? Almost as interesting as Tehachapi Pass, given the whole kerfuffle of SP vs Santa Fe when the San Joaquin service was being planned out.

    Western Long distance trip

Second that, you can visit attractions in LA as well for that day. Hollywood, Griffith Park, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, etc. Train 1 can be as early as 4:15am and late as several hours. Also, what would you do in San Diego for 1.5 hrs? That's not much time... but if you make it to 768, you...

Looks like a change in boarding procedures at major stations-info from

Hey, having a country-hopper flight would be pretty cool. Like stopping at NYC, Scranton, Buffalo, Cleveland, and Toledo, on the way to Chicago.

Pacific Surfliner schedule changes effective October 9, 2017

http://octa.net/images/2017_LOSSAN_Pacific_Surfliner_Timetables_October_2017.pdf New Schedule .pdf file has been posted on the Pacific Surfliner (though not Amtrak's) website.

Pacific Surfliner schedule changes effective October 9, 2017

Yep, it only had 35/55 minutes to turn around at SLO. Now 763 will turn to 796 at SLO with 105 minutes there. I personally would have preferred for 792 to be extended to SLO, so there's an earlier option for getting to SD rather than only 1am (the only earlier one is 774, leaving SLO before 7am).

Pacific Surfliner schedule changes effective October 9, 2017

As of September 21, 2017, Amtrak has yet to release its new Pacific Surfliner schedule for October onwards, but searching via the ticket buyer will reveal these changes. The new schedule seems to be effective from Monday, October 9, 2017. It is strange that Amtrak hasn't put out any official...

New Rider, CHI to San Fran, then south, many questions!

Whether to continue on the CS to Santa Barbara/LA or not is basically choosing whether to risk the CS being late (so the coast section is darker/night), or get guaranteed daylight views from the Surfliner, but with less amenities (and waking up for the 6:55a train). #11's timekeeping is pretty...

    Canadian on asm.transitdocs.com

The Canadians (1 & 2) & other long distance VIA trains have finally showed up on asm.transitdocs.com, while the other corridor trains have been regularly shown there for the past few weeks. Anyone know what happened? I'm happy I can see them again.

Questions as I wander west (Cardinal and Empire Builder)

Pretty sure, yes. You walk through the 2 Portland coaches, the lounge, and the 2 Seattle coaches to get to the diner. Separately, a MSP-CHI coach is sometimes added onto the back, so then the Portland sleeper will no longer have the railfan window for that section.

    Coaster

Only 4 trains are cross-honored though, only from Oceanside to San Diego. 761/1761, 567, 573, 595 going north, and 784, 790/1790, 592, 796 going south. 761/1761 & 592 don't stop at all the Coaster stops.

I like that the shade of red on the location history map changes based on speed! The table with estimated/actual times is color-coded and easy to read. Thanks!

    Silver Star Diner

It would be nice if they removed the cost of the food from the sleepers, so the sleepers are cheaper, and the sleeper pax pay for their food. I'd suppose some passengers just want a bed to sleep in at night, and they don't need to eat in the diner car.

    If only one train . . .

The best scenery of the Rockies is IMO between Glenwood Springs and Denver, so I'd not miss that section. It's the part that includes narrow canyons and other nice landscapes without the I-70 in the way (it diverges from the CZ route a little east of Glenwood Springs).
