I suspect part of the difference is the Maple Leaf becomes a VIA train once it crosses the border. The Adirondack and Cascades are still technically Amtrak trains.

I think honestly what probably got the most negative response (I know it sort of tripped me) was the idea of handing out "tickets" or taking pictures. Otherwise, I'm all for well-behaved kids on trains.

Train travellers are a rather relaxed group of people. However that doesn't mean they like their privacy or time interrupted. On the train your coach seat is your only little bubble of privacy. Elsewhere, like in the dining car or the lounge car, things are much more relaxed.
