How do feel about riding "Coach" ?

I agree, WAS-NYP on 66 is the worst! And the 3:15 am departure (190 I think) is next. One conductor likes to announce: “Next stop BWI in 5 minutes” and “Now arriving BWI” and “Last call for BWI”. While this wouldn’t be bad, it’s at 4 am and many are trying to sleep!

    Amtrak.com multi-city search problem

The only advantage that I see to take BC on the NEC is that you get a 25% AGR bonus. Other than that, you get a choice of sitting in 1 car, not 8-9 other cars. You do not get a quiet car. (Back in the old AGR 1.0 days, you got BC if you got a sleeper award. I once was in BC when numerous...

    Amtrak.com multi-city search problem

That does make sense, if it involved say BUF-POU, but CHI-SDY has both “trains” and thus offer BC. 448 does not split off until ALB - which is after SDY. If I were somebody riding Amtrak for the first time, I may say “I don’t want to pay $xxx for a room. I’m not going to take Amtrak then.”

Crossing Canadian border with food and beverage?

When I lived in Arizona, I lived in Bullhead City. The easiest way to get there from other parts of AZ (such as Phoenix or Flagstaff) was via Needles, CA and crossing the bridge over the Colorado River - not more than 1/2 mile off I-40. Before you get to Needles along I-40, there is a CA...

    Protests continue for third day

If this were to shut down (say) the EB, Washington’s response (especially at Amtrak) would be:

Crossing Canadian border with food and beverage?

My sister once flew from Tokyo to Chicago. In the lounge in Tokyo, she put an apple in her bag to eat on the flight. But she forgot about it. Upon arrival in Chicago, that “contraband” apple was discovered and seized and destroyed. That apple was from Washington state! We can’t have those...

    Bedroom Pricing...

That is true, but I like to look at them (the titles) before I delete them, because occasionally I find 1 or 2 “legitimate” emails in there that “fell thru the cracks”.

    Amtrak.com multi-city search problem

I was just doing a search for fares, and looked at SAN-FED. If I do a multi-city search for SAN-CHI and CHI-FED, I get a choice on the LSL (CHI-SDY) of coach, roomette or bedroom. On the EA, I get a choice of coach or BC. I do not get a choice of BC on the LSL! (I did not check about the...

    Bedroom Pricing...

Texts would be better. My unwanted telemarking emails go directly into my “junk” folder automatically without my even seeing them. When I delete my junk folder every few days, I see I get 50-100 PER DAY!

    Storing Luggage

My own opinion is a ribbon or something distinctive is enough. As is a tag with just your initial showing. I don’t know your last name, but I would not fee very comfortable having someone (a passenger) call out “Samantha Trip!”. I’d rather have them see just “T” on your tag or bag. My tag just...

    Bedroom Pricing...

Back in the “Good Old Days” (a few years ago), as soon as you stepped aboard the train, any unsold rooms dropped by 50%!:) Not anymore.:( Now, the cost is the “current bucket” - just as if you were just booking it online or by phone. In fact, you need to call an agent by phone from the train in...

    Empire Builder Operational Questions

I’m just saying numbers at random, but today’s 2830 may be car #39182, while tomorrow’s 2830 may be car #39263. How often do you tell someone that, “I’m coming to come in tomorrow on plane N38694! Meet me at the airport!” I bet you would tell that same person instead “I’m arriving on Delta...

    Storing Luggage

What I do if I’m in a sleeper is this: I leave my bag in the luggage rack on the lower level. When I go to get changed or take a shower, I grab the necessary clothes for my bag (which is right next to the shower/rest rooms), take my shower and/or change, put my dirty clothes back in my bag and...

    Empire Builder Operational Questions

While there may be 2-3 trains with the same number, that is why you may see a number in () - to differentiate each train. 28(15) departed Portland on the 15th, while 28(16) departed Portland on the 16th. Each train has only 1 car number 2830. Thus, car #2830 room 7 on 28(15) is not the same as...

Sugested trip for for 5 from Chicago

Even fly to/from Denver and take the train and fly back to/from Sacramento. Although you may think GJT is a “nothing” airport, I was surprised by it being a “large” small airport. I flew on AA from GJT nonstop to DFW! True, it was a CRJ, but I get them also from ALB to ORD. I’m not certain...

    Storing Luggage

A very good suggestion for any travel Even at airports, it is much easier to see your bag on the carousel as the black bag with the yellow ribbon on the handle or has a large “W” (initial) on the permanent ID tag, instead of just looking for “the black bag”! It also makes it more distinctive...

    Bedroom Pricing...

If there were only 10 rooms available altogether, and 1 room is booked from CHI to OMA 1 room is booked from FMG to SLC 1 room is booked from DEN to RNO 1 room is booked from GJC to SAC Etc..., etc... Just those 4 room are 40% of the total inventory of rooms that COULD be sold from CHI to...

    Storing Luggage

I have never had a problem with putting luggage in the luggage rack. You also can of course store your bags in the luggage rack above your seat, but if you are in the upper level you will need to carry it up the narrow stairway. Even if I have a roomette, I store my bag in the lower level rack.

Menu on lake shore limited for coach passengers?

Some airlines I think are on their “Premium Service” trans cons, but not on all flights. Example: UA may offer it on their PS flights from LAX to EWR, but not “Normal” LAX to EWR or LAX to IAD - even if they are all nonstops!

    Bedroom Pricing...

I agree that it would be nice if Amtrak could show fares for other days surrounding the search. Sure, they show fares for other trains between the cities - such as NYP-WAS will show the 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... trains. And NYP-CHI will show the LSL, Cardinal, Regional to WAS and CL, Pennsylvanian to...
