    Amtrak Board Releases Gunn

This is an outrage, Gunn was doing well at the helm. Well said, but we had a leader with the vision and experience to get the job done, but he was just fired. Gunn had tons of experience dating back to the pre-Amtrak era, and he had the right visions going, improving the state of repair and...

    Transition Sleeper room locations

I'm not totally familar with the layout of the Superliner Transition Sleeper, but AFAIK it would be one of the rooms on on the upper level towards the A end (upper level door to next car).

One of the reasons Amtrak loses money

I agree that Silver Service and the Auto Train were cancelled way too far in advance, and that it's sadly not a unique occurance with Amtrak. However there are several issues with truncating Silver Service. It's difficult to find a place to turn and service the train other than SFA and...

    Extra Amfleets?

Clockers are essentially commuter trains operated between New York and Philadelphia under contract with NJ Transit. They accept NJT monthly passes in addition to Amtrak tickets. They run Amfleet coaches (no food service) and ALP-46 Locomotives on loan from NJ Transit. They make multiple stops...

    The Auto Train-All opinions welcomed

It's not Gunn but Chairman David Laney who is talking about/in favor up splitting the NEC into a separate entity. We're not quite sure why the board suddenly caved into the Bush administration's wishes, although they did appoint the board. I think its a formula for disaster, both literally and...

Turn Amtrak back to the freight railroads?

Interesting perspective to say the least. It's an interesting proposal, but it just doesn't seem realisitic. It would add more of a burden on Freight railroads and not eliminate the need for funding, in fact it might increase it. It would be problematic to break up the unity of a single...

    Mass Anti Amtrak email!!!

I think it may be a good idea to lock this topic...even though I agree with some of the points made and disagree with some...well many of the Republican Party's stances/priorities this isn't the place to discuss it and we've gotten too far off topic. :(

    Modelling the EMPIRE BUILDER (1996)

The simple answer is no, the train would operate with one transition sleeper that would run on the Seattle section of the train.

    NOL Trains Update

Hooray! :D I wouldn't expect too much ridership right now, but we'll see what happens, especially as time goes on. Does this include restoration of the diner? Is NOL now just a station (did they remove the jail)?

    Sightserer Lounge vs Lounge

They drawings may exist, but I've heard nothing of them in the old articles I've read in train magazine. I can say for certain that no Viewliner Lounge shell exists as there was no mention of one being constructed or delivered in any of the articles I've read.

    Sightserer Lounge vs Lounge

The Texas Eagle and the Capitol Limited both have Superliner Sightseer lounges, as do most Long Distance trains (primarily those operating West of the Mississippi). There is no Viewliner Lounge sadly, maybe someday there will be, but we'll have to wait and see. Single Level Trains feature...

Diner to come off the CNO for good

To what extent are we talking of cuts on Silver Service? Are we talking amenities (ex. dining car) or elimination? Either prospect is a scary one to this Silver Service Patron

Diner to come off the CNO for good

Disgraceful, no LD should be without a diner, it's bad enough that the Three Rivers didn't have one and that the Cardinal doesn't, but now to take it off the City of New Orleans is only going to lower ridership and is a step towards elimination practically. We definitely have to stop this now...

    One Night Amtrak trip

Another thing to note is that of the three cities you mentioned two of them require you to transfer at Washington (or Alexandria) and that is for Atlanta and Chicago. Tampa would be a one seat ride on the Silver Star, which is a pleasant ride but not necesarily the most scenic, Sean already...

    Hurricane Katrina Disruptions

Well best of luck to you on both of those counts. Meanwhile I find it disgraceful to see a clearly increasing number of "No Alternate Transportation Provided", while in this case severe weather is a cause, there are circumstances where it's disgraceful not to offer it, it certainly doesn't help...

Clocker train gaps may be left unfilled

Well hopefully those two "true" (ltd.) Clockers may be restored but if not there still is plenty of service for NEC commuters. I found this quote most interesting, a little bit outdated, even though I sort of preferred the old name for the NEC sevice
