Passengers Ride the Auto Train Without a Car

This advisory was posted by Gene Poon on Trainorders.com and the Yahoo! Amtrak groups. Very interesting circumstance...wonder if they'll be given complimentary meals in the Diner like Coach Passengers get on the Auto Train or not. Reminds me of something sort of similar that occured once with...

Dining Car breakfast included with sleeper price?

Yeah, it is the Amtrak website also states that...we do that all the time when we take the Silver Meteor/Star.

    Nose job for #157

It's an interesting photo, but I personally don't like the look of the exposed bolts or whatever it is, it kinda spoils the streamlined look. But I guess looking at it, it's probably alot easier to remove/replace that part of the nose as needed.

    Dining Car Hours

Looking at my manifest from a recent trip on the Silver Meteor: Breakfast: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM Lunch: 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM Dinner: 5 PM to 9 PM So yes, if your train is relatively on time, you should be able to eat dinner in the Diner on #92 without trouble. I can't remember exactly when...

What is your favorite equipment type?

I'm not telling  Seriously though, It's one of the more fascinating types of equipment in terms of history and background. It was the first car I travelled in on Amtrak, and I like most things about it, especially the window design. The only things I dislike about them are the refurbs...

    I'm off yet again

Just got back a little over an hour ago, 98 was practically on time, maybe 5 mins late at the most into NWK. Overall it was a very nice trip, the crews were pretty good both ways (one notable exception). The one exception was an overzealous and misinformed Coach Conductor and Attendant on 97...

    I'm off yet again

Well guys, it seems like yesterday that I started a similar topic, but I'm leaving yet again tomorrow on another round trip aboard the Silver Meteor, returning on the 26th. I'm going to be visiting my grandparents in South Florida. I hope this will just be one of many more trips to come, that...

    They're coming back!!!

Just looked on the Walthers website, the Phase IV Amfleet II Coaches and Superliner II's will be back in stock on June 7th!!!

    LAKESHORE LIMITED

While this may not be an accurate depcition of what the consist was like around that time, it should be close especially in terms of the equipment. Keep in mind there would be more cars on the LSL in the summer than in the winter. I'm not sure if the LSL was HEP equipped by then, if it was...

NJ already responding Bush Amtrak Proposal

The story is located here. I'm glad to see reaction already denouncing the planned cuts...especially from the governor and senators (though its very probable Corzine will become the next governor next year) from my state. Lets hope this is only the beginning of people voicing opposition to...

    Amtrak State Fact Page

Yeah, it is 7.47%, Surprised your calculator is so messed up. 83526-77717=5809 (as you said matt) 5809/77717=.074 New Jersey: 2003- 3,794,479 2004- 3,855,311 1.6% Increase, not as impressive, but still the right direction. It impresses me that Princeton Junction (#9) handled more...

    Metropolitan Lounge South Station

I remember using the ClubAcela Lounge in NYP, was very nice waiting for the (delayed) Acela Express in November. I enjoyed the fresh fruit and soda and coffee...too bad they were out of pastries by then though. Even though that statement is sort of irrelevant, I brought up that experience to...

    Favorite Amtrak Route?

I'm going to be a little biased here, but by far, I'd have to say the Silver Meteor, it was the first Amtrak train I took, and other that the Silver Star, Acela Express, Regional, and Metroliner, the only one. Not only because it was the first I took, but also because of the rich history it...

    Saving Amtrak

Once again, we feel sympathy for you, but please don't belittle our happy little forum with the same Amtrak bashing post, you've stated you're opinion and your unfortunate tale, but please unless you have somthing more to add, leave it at that. What happened to you is unfortunate, there's very...

    Refurbished Superliner I's

The HVAC seems to be very ineffective on the Viewliners also. One of the biggest complaint my family has is how the Viewliners get too hot during the day and the AC provides very little relief...that's if the compressor doesn't constantly reset itself and shut down after a while, even if the...

    How often do they de-rail?

Was the 1995 derailment the sabotage? I remember an episode of unsolved mysteries or something of that nature on FOX which mentioned one Sunset Limited being sabotaged. IIRC, they separated the track, but kept the electrical sensor connected so everything looked clear on the signal. It was an...

    Refurbished Superliner I's

For those of you who haven't seen pics of the new cars click here. They are really nice built, Beech Grove has done a great job with these cars...I like what I'm seeing, definitely a sign of better times.

    Los Angeles Metrolink Crash

Its very unfortunate, the conductor was an Amtrak employee (Amtrak crews Metrolink trains). I read in todays trains newswire that another was a railfan that enjoyed riding in the cab when the train was in push mode and built a model of one of the Metrolink Stations. I've heard two scenarios on...

    "School Boy Special" for 2005

Thanks for the full consist and the updates guys, I had been curious on the car numbers. It's certainly unique to see the dorm in the middle of the consist, but it's sensible....acting as a buffer betweeen the boys and the girls. OBS, correct me if I'm wrong, but the boys are towards the head...

    Mules, Ann Rutledge using Superliners

Amazingly, this also seems to be true for new Viewliners...It's the first time we've seen any real progress since 62049 arrived in 1996. While the order hasn't fully been placed yet, the fact that reportedly 2300 and 8400 are in Bear to be used as full scale mockups says something in terms of...
