    Mules, Ann Rutledge using Superliners

Certainly is a nice treat for the passengers, hopefully there won't be any problems with superliner availabilities. Maybe with the future orders of the DMU's, there will be enough equipment where the weather isn't too much of an issue as availability will be.

    Sunset Limited schedule changes

I would hope expect as you guys have said that 97 will get a later schedule. Because of the schedule change that occured initially I'll end up missing between a day and a half to two days of school instead of one because of the current departure time. Hopefully 97 will return to a 7pm ish...

    Useless Dining Car Facts

I noticed this in car #8559 when I was on 98 from 12/31-1/1, I'll post my pictures soon, if anybody's curious on how they look. Personally, I think its a nice little touch in the diner, shows some standards of appearances still remain. Be nice if they put some of their own posters in though...

Surprised nobody is talking about the NEC...

Amtrak has (finally) issued a service bulletin, even though it doesn't say much more than the obvious. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServe...984041&ssid=180 NJ Transit also will have affected service tomorrow morning, including MidTOWN Direct Service continuing to operate to Hoboken...

    "School Boy Special" for 2005

Thanks for the update...glad to see everyone is enjoying the train and all is working out well. Hopefully the snow won't be too much trouble for you guys on the return trip (we're supposed to get 16-24 inches up here in the NY Metro area). I'm I reading this right...One lounge for the entire...

Surprised nobody is talking about the NEC...

Does anbody know how smoothly things are running on and around the NEC so far with the Blizzard? I'm surprised that we already have 3-6 inches here (not to mention 6+ by Trenton) and I haven't really been hearing about disruptions. As for NJT, their website states the following thus far...

More Talk of Nevada Bringing Amtrak to Las Vegas

As far as I know, other than the article, this is still just talk...not worth us getting our hopes up. I'm among those that will believe this when I see it. I agree it'll be great if/when we get Las Vegas service back, but I'm not sure I agree about talgo equipment. The issue would be that it...

    Athearn AMD 103 Phase V

eBay. Horizons bought Athearn, so it won't be making the P42s for Walthers anymore. Walthers owns the rights to use the Amtrak logo.

    Philadelphia advice

You definitely need to do a two day in my opinion, you need a whole day for hershey, so I'd go with a two day. Hershey is the kind of place where you need more than half a day to really get on some of the rides (accounting for the lines)...too bad they don't have a Fast Pass like Disney (I...

    Philadelphia advice

Hershey is only a few miles from the Harrisburg station (13 iirc from a hershey map), if somehow you can manage to rent a car there, then you'd be fine. I know that around hershey if you did stay overnight, there are more expensive hotels like the hershey hotel, and hershey lodge (where I...

    Heritage dorm cars

They're all ex-Budd Sleepers with the Bedrooms removed, and maybe even a roomette or two (forget exactly). The toilets are sealed up in the roomettes because of EPA regulations that forbade direct dumping of waste, which was how the cars were built. There are I believe two restrooms in the...

    Modeling the lake shore limited

Theres also a $35, I know its a little steep, but its a nice car with an interior.

    Modeling the lake shore limited

I believe that's what he meant. Walthers already makes a Dorm Lounge Ready Made, one is the Pacific series (decals it comes with), the other is from the exATSF Pine Series. They're about $35-40 IIRC.

Maine Pushing for Surcharge on NH Tickets

The rest of the article from Trains Newswire can be found here. I personally don't want to see this happen, I agree that New Hampshire should kick in, but a surcharge will only create a negative effect. The surcharge will turn people off and reduce ridership (even if it may be slight). Bottom...

    Garfield movie

Not that it looks like a great movie (looks pretty bad), but has anyone noticed the VIA equipment they've been using in the commercials for "Are we there yet?" I've seen it in some of the commercials (Their HEP Cars, much like the Heritage Fleet), its the only reason I'd even pay attention to...

    Smokers-There is hope!

I agree, that's the absolute truth, I know its one of the most difficult things to do, but also the most sensible. It's money that can be spent on more rides on the train, or whatever else you want. I can understand one being upset, because of restrictions, but in this case its for the health...

    "School Boy Special" for 2005

I hope you'll see it, but If you don't, I'll have pictures of the interior of Coach 54048 (one of the whole car, one of a set of seats) posted soon.
