The lower bunk is better for me. The location of the room has never been a problem for me. Beds are bigger in bedrooms. Many people have problems sleeping on the first night of a train trip for a variety of reasons. I always have ear plugs if noise is an issue.
Ive enjoyed many Gold Coast Dogs over the years at the station. On my layovers in summer before heading out and catching a train east I treat myself to a stay at hotel off Michigan Ave. I stay a couple days as its close to a couple favorite eating places. I enjoy a Pizanos thin crust pizza one...
I too have chatted with Henry Kissinger. He came in the DC lounge and sat next to me. It was hard to know what to say to someone like that but we managed some small talk and then his train was called. Al Sharpton came in once with several large fellows who did not sit down. He is quite a small...
I've seen or sat with several high profile types when flying in first class. Even more in the lounge in DC but none of them were getting on my long distance trains. I hope to take more long distance train trips but given its current state and pricing I'm not considering it right now.
Never had any interest in eating in my room. My last trip was September from Chicago on Cardinal and Star to Florida. I ate no meals in my room and was always seated alone. Many empty spaces to eat. Most everyone seemed to eat in their rooms.
Im trying to remember. The oatmeal I had on Cardinal and Star in September was honey type, I believe. LSL probably the same. I cook oatmeal at home and the Amtrak version I had wasnt the real deal. I really couldnt eat it all at either meal so you might want to bring some granola just in case.
When traveling I always have a backpack as a carry on and first aid supplies are always in my backpack including blood clotting patches. Large ones. There is also a whistle in my backpack but I carry these things because I hike and fly fish alone in somewhat remote areas. If Im on a train that...
I was on it about three weeks ago and yes flex dining. Good news on that trip was most everyone ate in their room. At 6:15 or 6:30pm for my dinner there was only one other person in the diner. My food and drink were brought to me. I ate as much flex food as I could and ordered another beer...
There will always be multiple questions on the same subject. Many folks just drop in once in a while to ask questions so arent reading posts every day. Ive been here for many years and had the same question earlier this year. I happened to see travel reports on 91 and 98 Viewliner II's and...
