    Real story on observation car...

If I'm going west on the CZ from Chicago I have a bedroom and dont rush to get up early, have a quick breakfast to try and score a seat in SSL at Denver. Ive done this route a few times and I find as reported before that as a single I can usually find a seat. If no seat then I'm comfortable in...

    Amtrak's Online Presence

Customer service technology advances faster than most companies big and small can keep up with. Mostly only those with deep pockets stay ahead of the game. Amtrak surely could do better in the tech department but cannot do what they really need given their financial priorities.

Why I'll Never Ride Amtrak Again

Ive traveled thru CUS many times on various LD trains. Ive witnessed some chaos and rudeness especially when the lounge doesn't communicate downstream to the gate area and they dont know the herd is coming. Couple that with walking towards the departure gate and other passengers crossing in...

Food around Seattle King Street Station

There are not too many places close to the station. You should google and read. Pike Place is about a mile and its not a flat walk but a cool place with many choices for food.

    Brightline Report From OMAAT

I live in West Palm Beach and have taken the train to Miami twice. I ride select and can tell you its a sweet ride. Everything being still new and clean ups the experience. These folks are not just in the transportation business but heavy into the real estate business surrounding the stations...

    CZ - CS snow trip

Ive done Chi-Emy in early March and was spectacular with the snow. Pictures out the back window in sleeper coming out of tunnels turned out great. I think Seattle has a fine public transportation system. Was there in late August. Have been to Seattle several times and no safety issues downtown...

Hotels at Amtrak connection points nationwide

Sometimes its not always economical to stay close to the Amtrak station such as Seattle. I stay by the airport and take the Link Light Rail to the station. Hotels have shuttles to the airport and drop you off at that station. For me its $1 to ride downtown close to Amtrak. Hotels by airport are...

    amtrak's double bedroom

Two bedrooms with a big metal partition that opens up facing each other. 2 couches, 2 chairs, 2 bathrooms and 4 beds. Expensive but is a suite of sorts. You can certainly buy one bedroom per person.

Winter respiratory illnesses: train vs plane

I fly and take trains every year and to my knowledge have never been sick after the trips. I practice good hygiene and every once in a while Ill catch a cold for unknown reasons. Taxis that have had 40 people in the car before me, grocery store where an ill person picks up a can of ?? tomato...

Rough time on the City of New Orleans

Glad that all ended well for you. As a sleeping car passenger I would not have been pleased with some announcement if I understand you correctly to awaken me to tell me we are running late with another engine.

Questions about domestic in-transit luggage inspection.

Ive been thru Reno many times and seen the guys and dogs. Ive boarded in Reno for Chicago many times. I have gotten off in Reno from Chicago also. Single guy, one way ticket, small suitcase, cooler and backpack in a bedroom. Only once have I gotten a knock on the door. No dog just two officers...

Reviews for carry-on food at your station

Flex dining food is not inedible. I ride the Cap eastbound and dinner is ok. For breakfast I had hot oatmeal, warmed blueberry muffin and two bowls of fruit with hot coffee. That's a good breakfast for me anyway given the fact I wont eat that well on my next leg down to Florida. Chicago has...

Chewable is the best to carry. I have it at home, carry it on a trip and also have a bottle in my suv.

Tips for meals and Sleeping Car attendant

Yes I do the same. Many come by the room on arrival and ask if i need any help with bags. Rarely get help when boarding. I always have a backpack and a carry on suitcase. I ask them to take the suitcase.

Why trains instead of planes for long distance?

Never seems to take too long to get a little off topic. Oh well, I’m not concerned about which method of transportation is safer. I take the train simply because I can. On my way home each summer from out west I take three trains to get back to Florida. I ride in a sleeper, enjoy the...
