T between South and North stations in Boston

Yes, Alan, that is one fine example of forward thinking; I'm fairly certain the street was named Causeway long before the subway, or elevated, was built ;)

    Lakeshore Ltd. Roomette/Car assignments

While many may do just that, if traveling eastbound, I really cannot see transferring luggage from one end of the train to the other, while underway, before arriving in the Albany/Rennselear yard for the splitting of the two sections. For that matter, your 4820 roomette may not be available...

    NOL Hotel

I have walked to the Drury Inn on Poydras. Nice place, reasonable rates. Not too far from the station I have also walked to the St Peter House, on St Peter. It's just a couple blocks off Bourbon St; a longer walk from NOUPT. Not a high end establishment, but it's decent, and generally quite...

what if miss CZ connection in Martinez?

I'm not the OP, but I'll do my best to explain. When traveling southbound on the Coast Starlight to a connection eastbound on the California Zephyr, Amtrak uses Sacramento as the transfer point. The CS arrives at 6:15 AM. The CZ departs at 11:09, almost a five hour wait. So, many people ask...

    Lakeshore Limited to/from Boston

The train splits/joins in Albany/Rennselear, not in Schenectady. I had a trip scheduled in December of '09 in a roomette on 448, so, at least since then. I cannot say exactly when the through cars returned, but I was quite pleased when they did.

    Dinner on the LSL?

This past Monday, sleeper passengers boarded at 8:00. Being in the 4820 sleeper, I do not know what time the coach passengers boarded.

    can't get the bus

You will need to call AGR @ 1-888-707-6600 to reserve your three zone roomette. The agent should be able to make it work for you. Looks like a great trip :) Mike

    iowa to boston

Welcome to the Forum! I can not say for sure which tracks the two trains will be using, but they are both on the south side of Chicago Union Station, and the LSL will be posted before boarding time. Where you are in a sleeper, on the LSL, be sure to use the Metropolitan Lounge to wait and...

Lunch on LSL 449 out of Boston

If none of the offerings from the "sleeper" menu suit you, any item from the cafe menu may be ordered. Either way, it's included in your sleeper fare.

    Train #27 Breakfast

Yes, a box breakfast is provided. IIRC, there was a ham & cheese croissant, cereal & milk, yogurt, fruit, and possibly a muffin, too. I wasn't hungry when I was finished eating :) Not as good as a hot breakfast in the diner, but it's adequate. Enjoy your trip! Mike

    Outlets discussion

I can't quote you the exact article (because I don't remember, and my code book is in the truck), but when doing load calculations (commercial or residential), you must figure 180 watts per receptacle. A 20 amp circuit has 2400 watts available (120 volts times 20 amps), 2400 divided by 180 is...

My last visit, it was $4.50 per piece of luggage, for the day.

    Lens advice

I'll second Jishnu's recommendation. After asking his opinion at the LA Gathering, I saved my pennies and bought the exact same lens. I have been very happy with it; the very few disappointing photos I've taken have been do to photographer ineptness :ohboy: Mike

    Amtrak Vacations Gift Certificates

Absolutely off topic; I had 1964 Dart GT with the 225 and pushbutton-shifted automatic. Mike
