    Compensation for long delay?

Agreed on the customer service call. I got a voucher for a much lesser problem. They're very kind and compassionate.

    CZ Luggage

BTW nix on the overhead racks in coach. They're small. I've never had anything stolen from the luggage racks. I guess there's always a first time though.

    CZ Luggage

They won't bother you. I've taken the California Zephyr many times from Chicago. I boarded in Glenview on Metra, and they gave me a hard time about my luggage but let me on anyway. The worst that can happen is you have to check the luggage rather than taking it on board and putting it on the...

Sleeper complimentary meals during a long delay...

I had the stew and it wasn't bad. Served over rice if I remember. It would be nice if airlines fed us during delays.

    Creative dining on Amtrak

I like to tip the cafe car attendants even if I'm just getting hot water. I tend to drink a lot of tea. Is it just me that tips for that? And FYI, I've tried to make oatmeal with the hot water.. no dice, it comes out awful.

Green Swedes shun holiday flights for lure of the train...

It would be wonderful to take the train everywhere. I hope that's a possibility in my lifetime.

Amtrak moving forward to stop all, most LDT

Being in Chicago the eastbound routes are not attractive to me as. A lot of routes are at night both ways. I know height is a restriction, but without a dome, it isn't that enticing. I'm sure the markets they serve are more lucrative than westbound. Would Keeping eastbound routes more...

RRdude You hit the nail on the head. Marketing! I agree, the staff is amazing. The scenery is amazing. It's not enough, to put up with the delays and sub-par food and lodging. What can *we* do? There's got to be something. There are a lot of other train lover online communities. Think of all...

Apologies, Penny. You are right. I think we're all frustrated. I wish we could fix this :( Anyone with the power to delete, please delete my off-topic posts here. Thanks.

Anyone want to go in on this with me? I am 100% serious. I am an entrepreneur who isn't that great at rounding up money, but is amazing at starting profitable businesses!

Although I hate privatization, and I think it's what is ruining America, if they would just let go of our beloved long distance trains, and let some corporation buy us, we could go back to the days of white gloves and premier dining experiences. Not to mention comfortable accomodations. Sorry...

Derailment of Cascades #501, DuPont WA, 2017-12-18

After slamming Amtrak regarding life saving safety device, a little blurb at the end of the article finally acknowledges that funding has been cut. "Joseph Boardman, a former chief executive of Amtrak, said the company could have had the system in place throughout the corridor more than 15...

Whatever happened to "fixing the aging infrastructure" of this country?

Ugh, more fodder for the government to get rid of Amtrak instead of getting us the money to improve.

Which trains going east of Chicago have sightseer lounges?

Guess what? After all your advice, I had it down to going to D.C. for a couple of days on the Cardinal, then coming back on the Capitol Limited. But.... even though I love traveling alone on Amtrak, this time I was going with a travel companion who bowed out. I just wasn't that excited about...
