That's too bad. That being said, and I just discovered this, it does appear that Valley Metro, the Roanoke transit system, does operate a bus service that meets the train in Lynchburg that goes to and from Bedford(and on to Roanoke, for local travel between Bedford and Roanoke), which continues...

So this is something that just occurred to me. When what's now the Roanoke Northeast Regional terminated in Lynchburg, the connecting Thruway Motorcoach also stopped in Bedford on its way to Roanoke. Would there be any merit in adding an infill station in Bedford, which it is now no longer...

I agree, but I would be curious to see how well communicated the whole situation was to the passengers, since I know from lurking on this board that Amtrak has a reputation for not being great when it comes to communication.

I think what the person is saying is that, assuming the rumors were true,  the whole train should have been evacuated if it was possible to get crew-members off of the train. I don't know if this was actually possible in this case, but I can see why someone would think that. 

The Vermonter has a separate ticketing regime from the rest of the trains on the New Haven-Springfield Line. Hartford Line tickets are not valid on it, and it still uses typical bucket-based pricing rather than the purely distance based fare of other trains on the line.

Is Amtrak covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act as a Federal Government owned enterprise? If so, that arbitration agreement would presumably only pertain to torts that are not covered under the Act.
