    NEC shut down in Odenton

The coach that derailed in an AF I. I thought the winter consist of the Cardinal was two coaches. Just curious why an AF I is there, deadheading?

Long Distance Business Class -- A practical idea?

I haven't gone back and read the entire thread so shame on me. I was thinking the biz class seats would be coach type seats and not lie flat seats thus encouraging some to go upstairs and lounge lizard.

Man posing for photo struck, killed by train near Kalama, WA

I'd get a NASCAR race car and bump draft the Acela. I witnessed something similar in Ladd, IL on the Illinois Railnet tracks where there was a meet of antique rail MOW scooters. Completely sanctioned by the railroad, an organized event. Looked like a ton of fun.

    Questions for BUF-ORL round trip

Regarding question 1) you were riding in a Heritage sleeper, sometimes called a 10-6 sleeper because it had 10 single roomettes and 6 double bedrooms. If you look at the video link below, fast forward to 15:05 mark, and it should jog your memory.

Long Distance Business Class -- A practical idea?

Would an overnight BC create a possible "lounge lizard" situation in the PPC?

    An eerie frosted train

It happens all the time when snow is on the track. The vestibules are not airtight and swirling snow collects everyplace. Another example below

    WAS

I would suggest the ALX option if you can get comfortable with the later PHL arrival. When I ride RVR to WAS, and points north, the train is pretty empty until boarding at WAS. With that said, if you go Red Cap or get in the front of the line at WAS there is a decent chance of getting 4 seats...

Steepest grade on an Amtrak route

Not anywhere remotely related to the citation requested :P I had a Citation back in the day, thanks for the nostalgia break!!

Steepest grade on an Amtrak route

Best information I could find, wouldn't call it a citation, more of a conjecture. From, http://amarillo.com/stories/112209/new_news1.shtml In 1964, the Department of Defense decided to close the base along with more than 90 other military installations. Rumors still float around that former...

Capitol Limited -vs- Lake Shore Limited

Likely not, I tried, when the CL arrived on time in DC, to move up to an earlier train but had to pay high bucket fare. It was about $10.00 (WAS to RVR) so I went for it to get home 2 hours earlier. There was no proactive effort on Amtrak's part to offer an earlier train or retain the low...

    Alternative sleeping configuration in roomette?

I'm going to add a can of WD-40 to my "stuff to bring" list. It was one of those rode hard and put up wet superliners that got me. The seat refused to slide down flat. Now I hope I'm not starting a "blood in sleepers" thread :)

    Alternative sleeping configuration in roomette?

I've been told the same thing on a few occasions when I said I wouldn't need help with the changeover. One time i did cut my finger on something under the seat. Got an "I told you so" from the SCA when I sought out a band-aid.

Capitol Limited -vs- Lake Shore Limited

When travelling solo I keep the chairs in daytime mode and sleep in the top bunk. I like the upper window and count me among the fans of an in roomette toilet. Not related to your question, but influencing my decision, I've ridden the CL much more than the LSL so also would choose the LSL for...

Capitol Limited -vs- Lake Shore Limited

Mr. Hudson nailed it. If it were me, and could only take one, it would be the LSL simply beause I prefer Viewliners over Superliners, especially if travelling solo.

    Alternative sleeping configuration in roomette?

I'm note sure what the poster means about having more room without the mattress which is only about an inch high. Would they be standing on the seats to dress? A passenger can slide the two seats together. There is a bar under each seat that if lifted up can allow the seat to recline, then...

Capitol Limted - "diner lite" now?

I'm with you on the terminology. Call it a Diner-Lounge or CCC but they both serve/served the full dining car menu offerings or the route served. I guess the diner-lite euphemism still applies to the Cardinal. I think the D-L would make for a fully functional lounge car, just no downstairs...

"Drug" searches on my Amtrak round trip - racial profiling?

Or "CONDUCTORS" Whatcha gonna do when they come for you, bad boys, bad boys.......

    Overnight bag in roomette?

I avoid the coat hook as my backpack has the tendency to make swishing noises as it goes back and forth with the train movement.
