    Milwaukee-Madison high-speed rail route

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/63360012.html Route was hoping to get boost from Olympics in Chicago. Madison Mayor Cieslewicz said, "We thought we had a very strong application even without the Olympics. The fundamentals of that route are very strong and the Olympics would have sealed...

Southern 1 zone loophole from the Loophole Guru

Yeah. That's true. Oh well. Could get a room I suppose for 1 night, soak up the local color. According to Google, there are plenty near by. Or go on to Topeka or Kansas City.

Southern 1 zone loophole from the Loophole Guru

You're not confused, you got it! Then do it in reverse to get back home. I don't think it would necessarily raise eyebrows. It is a "legal" itinerary. And who's to say that you need to stay in a city a minimum amount of time before beginning the next leg of a trip?

Southern 1 zone loophole from the Loophole Guru

This one works round trip and with any station between Schriever, LA and El Paso, TX on the Sunset's route. 1 Sunset Limited: Schriever, LA (SCH) --> Los Angeles, CA (LAX) (46h 15m) --9h 5m layover-- 4 Southwest Chief: Los Angeles, CA (LAX) --> Dodge City, KS (DDG) (27h 34m) 73h 49m total...

New 1 zone Columbus loophole discovered

This only goes in one direction though: 3 Southwest Chief: Albuquerque, NM (ABQ) --> Los Angeles, CA (LAX) (16h 30m) --2h layover-- 14 Coast Starlight: Los Angeles, CA (LAX) --> Portland, OR (PDX) (29h 25m) --65m layover-- 28 Empire Builder: Portland, OR (PDX) --> Columbus, WI (CBS) (42h...

    Attention LoopHole Fans!!!

I knew that. <_< But it's still not a round trip AGR loophole; you still have to either spend $100 or burn what, another 12,000 points? I guess it comes down to whether it's worth it to go from Columbus to Omaha for $100 or the extra points? I suppose it could, it is a longer trip and has...

    Attention LoopHole Fans!!!

OK now I'm confused. The original round trip Columbus loophole was Columbus (CBS)-->Denver (DEN), followed by DEN-->CBS. One-zone AGR for each leg and you're back home. It is also possible to book an Omaha (OMA)-->CBS loophole, but not a CBS-OMA trip (I just tried it). The OMA-CBS leg...

Radio monitoring, worth it? What type?

I just bought a new handheld Uniden BC72XLT for just over $75 with free shipping (they're widely available for around this price or up to ~ $100 but no need to pay that much). I absolutely love it. This scanner will easily monitor all railroad frequencies in the US and Canada. It is also...

    More information on Wisconsin's trains

Most likely, it'll be along the west side of Lake Winnebago. HWY 41 from Milwaukee-->Fond-du-Lac-->Oshkosh-->Appleton-->Green Bay is extremely heavily traveled and I suspect that route make the most sense. Many people commute between the west side of Winnebago and either Milwaukee or Green...

    More on Wisconsin trains

Couldn't agree more. Saying its "not fun" is being kind: its a nightmare! And the Milwaukee-Madison run is just as bad. When I drive to Madison several times a week, I take the 2-lane back roads and state highways. I get there just a quickly and I'm not stressed out. When the trains come...

    More on Wisconsin trains

Money for 2 Talgo trainsets approved by Wisconsin legislature last Tuesday :) , but vote broke along party lines with all 4 Republicans voting against it. In today's Journal Sentinel: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/52626442.html Trains to be painted Green and Gold. :D...

BREAKING NEWS: Wisconsin Purchises Two Talgo Sets

Of course not, don't be obtuse. <_< You miss the point entirely. I was simply supplying a fact to counter your specious claim about "yuppie" Senators on vacation in Washington, Starbucks, and getting elected again. In fact, with the many opponents of increasing trains in Wisconsin, your...

BREAKING NEWS: Wisconsin Purchises Two Talgo Sets

Actually, Wisconsin Governor Doyle, not some "yuppie state Senator", rode a Talgo train when he visited Spain not too long ago and he came back singing their praise.

How many cities have more than one Amtrak station

I guess Milwaukee, WI has 2, or is the airport not considered a "station"? It does have a waiting room. . . Milwaukee: MKE Milwaukee - General Mitchell International Airport: MKA
