Welcome Kevin, I am a "transplanted" Floridian living in Lake Wales.
It is always good to have young people (younger than me & Jim Hudson)
in Amtrak Unlimited. I hope you will post often.
I did the bus connection from CVS to RVR. It was a nice bus & driver.
Mostly interstate highway and plenty of time to transit to the Meteor.
I would do it again.
I am in Philadelphia now. I took the NJT Trenton Express to Trenton.
There were several people doing the same route. There were NJT & SEPTA
personnel at the station & signage to guide us to the shuttle bus.
The bus arrived in a few minutes and away we went to the West Trenton SEPTA
station...
I received a call from Amtrak last night advising that my Saturday re-book on #97 had been canceled.
I am now re-booked on New Jersey Transit from NYP to PHL this morning, then on Amtrak #83 to
WAS and finally #97 to Florida. I was able to get my sleeper accommodation on #97. The Amtrak...
Welcome. I am a Million Mile Flyer with United, but when I retired, I switched
from airplanes to trains. We moved from NJ to Florida last year, but I don't
really miss NJ. I hope you like AU and will be an active poster.
I carry my meds in a seven or twenty-eight day container without any problem.
I have never heard of any luggage search on Amtrak. I always take my meds
in my carry on bag.
I agree with Ryan. About the only other accommodation Amtrak could have
offered was to put you up in a hotel in Chicago and put you in a sleeper for
the next day. Perhaps another option was to bring cots into the new Baggage
Car and you could have spent the night in that car!!
The past 4 trips I have taken, the conductor has not asked for my ticket
or has anyone looked at my e-ticket. The SCA meets me at the door
where I enter the train - says my name - I respond with my room number
and I board the train.
We are doing the same trip in November. We will depart and return from / to Winter Haven, FL and stop for one week in
San Francisco for daughter's wedding. I have booked bedrooms on all trains and hoping the Pacific Parlor Car will be on
both legs of the CS.
I lived in Europe for six years (1996-2001) and traveled extensively by train (much better than flying).
I really liked the DB ICE trains (First Class). I found it more convenient than flying short distances. We
took several overnight trains - Amsterdam to Prague, Paris to Munich, Munich to...
I was on the southbound Silver Meteor yesterday. My SCA told me that the dining car will be removed
and the Café Car service will be the provider of food service for the entire train. I realize that the existing
dining cars are old, but they work fine from my perspective. I hope we do not...
I received five (5) emails of changes in my upcoming reservations. I did not see any changes
in the departure times, car number or sleeper number or letter.
