Do "mist connections" in India ever result in bustitutions?

Man killed trying to jump off train in North Philadelphia

Perhaps he imagined himself to be an "urban hobo."

Are Barriers in NYC Subway's Future?

No, the driver is on the front right in London. Having passengers board through the rear door, however, is ridiculous--unless the driver is also going to sit at the rear (and I don't see that happening anytime soon!).

Global No Pants Subway Ride 2013

BTW, do any participants in this also partake in the "Moon Amtrak" festivities each July in Laguna Niguel, California?

Global No Pants Subway Ride 2013

That means, of course, that you have to go "commando," i.e., nothing is to be worn under the kilt. It should all be as good as new.

Rail link proposed for Mexico's Yucatan peninsula

Given that Mexico all but abandoned passenger-rail service in the late '90s, does this stand a chance of succeeding? Will it be expanded into a "re-born" national passenger-rail network, or will this be a one-off sort of thing?

CTA To Add Surcharge To Blue Line Fare Departing O'Hare Station

At one time in our nation's history, didn't some people bellyache about "taxation without representation"? If they were alive today . . .

Mayor: Keep 2 NY subway push deaths in perspective

This may have been posted as a response in another thread, but I think it deserves its own discussion. More The mayor has a point, I suppose: traveling by subway is probably a lot safer than traveling by taxi, for example, but high-profile episodes like this get a lot more press for obvious...

New Talgos moving westward for testing

No, it's an engine. It makes too much noise for an unpowered cab car.

Man struck by train in Seattle rail tunnel

Link According to the quoted material in the article, the man wasn't dead--at least, not yet. Although not quoted above, the story in the link now says that the man did in fact pass away. Most likely he was a homeless transient.

The Official Onboard Sleeper Upgrade Thread

If you're heading westbound, perhaps the best place to gamble would be a few stops before Albuquerque, say, Las Vegas.* :D ____________________ *Las Vegas, NM, that is.

    Caltrain engineer overshooting a station

Is it really that simple? Or does an order have to be given allowing the train to back up? What if the station is just past a grade crossing (there still are some on the Caltrain line), and the act of backing either activates the gates or even puts the rear of the train back into the crossing...

4 Dead, 17 Hurt When Train Hits Texas Vets Parade

From the Huffington Post: It looks like the parade was over, and the vets were on their way to a banquet. Still, if they were riding on the back of a flatbed, it was probably traveling very slowly, and apparently at this point was stopped on the tracks, probably due to traffic. The driver...

San Jose Police shoot and wound man sitting on tracks

I remember when a deputy sheriff came and talked to us as part of our civics class in high school and said that when the police shoot, they shoot to kill, i.e., they don't "aim" for an arm or leg. Thus, they're usually reluctant to shoot unless they really believe they have to. Of course, any...
