Can we make "contemporary dining" better?

Who is/was worse? Downs or Anderson/Gardner?

Superliner Refresh? Capitol Limited Suggestions, etc.

If they're going to go single level, they need to include dome (both regular and full versions) and observation cars in the order, as well as slumbercoaches!

City of New Orleans on time performance?

It arrives 30 mins early on average? That really, REALLY surprises me, especially considering it runs on CN tracks, which is the railroad most hostile to Amtrak (from my observations).

    Amtrak's Roanoke-New River Valley Extension

Let's not jump to conclusions so quickly. The Capitol Corridor extension was largely hampered by the limited capacity and increasingly heavy freight traffic over Donner Pass, and this was before Precision Scheduled Railroading became all the rage among Class 1 railroads. This is not as much as a...

    Amtrak's Roanoke-New River Valley Extension

Where can we get a rough timeline for the resolution of the issues mentioned in the article above that put Norfolk Southern's participation in the study on the back burner, so we can get an idea on when work on the study may resume?

    Former Wisconsin Talgos

LOL Where's the funding for such a project going to come from? The funds Walker rejected are long gone and have been spent elsewhere. This project is likely never going to happen until we have a WW3 and the end of the human race happens.

    What would you add?

The Pioneer is missing from this map. Service to Boise is a must.

Amtrak should have an overnight LA-Bay Area train

While I have yet to ride a Coast Starlight Tehachapi detour in person, I watched a video of a ride shot from the rear platform of a private observation car, and thought parts of it were scenic. There were some parts of the ride that included views reminiscent of those seen when riding the...

Amtrak should have an overnight LA-Bay Area train

I hope you're right. It would be nice to have a regular passenger train going over the Tehachapi Loop, not only for scenery, but also for connections that are not bus-based.

Amtrak should have an overnight LA-Bay Area train

Heavy freight traffic over the Tehachapi Pass currently precludes any passenger traffic from using the route (other than the occasional Coast Starlight detour), which is why the San Joaquin terminates at Bakersfield, with bus connections to SoCal. In the unlikely event that a regular passenger...

    Amtrak Equipment for Sale 2018

Maybe Corridor Capital will buy them and add them to their existing Hi-Level fleet.

    What would you add?

I would add the Ozark Range Runner: St. Louis - Springfield - Tulsa - Oklahoma City. The Springfield stop would also serve the major tourist destination of Branson, MO, and would be connect to Branson by a Thruway Motorcoach. I'd chose the train name because it runs through the Ozarks and...

    Broadway Ltd Route being rebuilt

A more feasible idea would be to have a daytime CHI-BUF train so Ohio can get daytime service. An additional stop could be made at Dunkirk-Fredonia to serve a mid-sized metropolitan area that currently doesn't have service. This could be the beginning of improved Ohio service.

Amtrak says it will not run trains on routes without PTC

A STL-OKC route on the old Frisco would go through Springfield, not Joplin. The closest it would get to Joplin is Neosho, MO. Btw, a good name for the route would be the Ozark Range Runner. This would keep with the "runner" theme of the Missouri's passenger train names and would fit the area the...

Amtrak says it will not run trains on routes without PTC

A better service plan would be to revive the Lone Star CHI-HOS, with a section Temple-SAS. This would be concurrent with a reroute of the TE over the former Texas & Pacific via Abilene and Midland, TX. This would drastically improve running times of the TE and bring service into more of West...

Amtrak train with the most route changes

I think that designation might go to the Floridian. Despite its relatively short life, it was rerouted several times on various routes between 1974 and 1977.

Amtrak members hosting no passenger trains

N&W didn't host the Shenandoah, the B&O did. N&W hosted the Mountaineer, and later the Hilltopper.
  18. Anthony V

    What would you add?

It could be, but Governor Scott Walker doesn't want Madison to have any kind of passenger rail service.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Instead of scrapping them, they could go towards proposed corridor startups in other parts of the country, like NOL-Mobile, NOL- Baton Rouge, or BHM-MGM-MOE. Some could be pressed into long distance service to alleviate capacity shortages on existing single-level LD routes, or to possibly add...

    Amtrak’s Black Hawk

Not yet, unfortunately. This is just to gauge whether there is enough local support among the public to having passenger rail service along the corridor. If this passes, the state of Illinois will see that support, which could lead to the state re-funding this project.
