How common are luggage lockers in Europe?

Awesome, thanks so much! Is it often common to find them all full? One place in particular I'd like to use a luggage locker is Oswiecim, Poland to visit Auschwitz (from Krakow in the morning). Then catch a night train afterwards to Prague.

Brightline train and fire truck collide in Delray Beach 12/28/24

On that last point, I'd say Americans actually do value public goods, they'll just never admit it. Its very "American" to assume infrastructure and govt services they use just fell out of the sky or is somehow the free market, roads in particular. The ignorance is astounding. Its a huge...

How common are luggage lockers in Europe?

I'm planning a trip to Eastern Europe (Krakow, Prague, Vienna, Budapest). I'm curious how common luggage lockers are in stations in these areas? I'd love to be able to leave my bag at the station, explore a bit then take a train later. It's been awhile since I've been to Europe and am...

Brightline train and fire truck collide in Delray Beach 12/28/24

Florida is also notoriously horrific for incompetent and reckless driving which your stats show. I will never forget visiting Miami and waiting at a stoplight in a rental car and witnessing a white Yukon SUV come from behind, cross into the other direction of traffic to overtake us waiting and...

Brightline train and fire truck collide in Delray Beach 12/28/24

I'm curious about all the very ambitious grade separation projects that railroads built in cities all across the US in the 1900s-1930s. These were typically tackling many grade crossings as one large project. Who paid? How did they build them while maintaining service on the tracks? I know...

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

Very aware it's not Amtrak but it is an American passenger rail station so it's worth noting it as a car rental existing at a station away from the high volume NEC.

How far can they extend the Amtrak California Capitol Corridor?

I would extend the Capitol Corridor to Monterey and reactivate the line into Monterey. Its a huge visitor destination especially with the landmark aquarium. Traffic holiday weekends is terrible. Its such a logical location IMO to send the train with a strong walkable downtown with lots of...

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

Makes sense. For an in-city rental location, doesn't hurt having it near a station when locating it. Looks like MiamiCentral has an Avis. I used an Enterprise rental years ago in Detroit near the Amtrak station but that location no longer exists. Its likely lack of service and low ridership is...

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

Very similar to Seattle/Portland -> Whitefish, MT. I was blown away how many got off there. And as proof of how popular it is... there's a Budget rental car office in the station (was a recent post here about why there aren't car rentals at Amtrak stations). Whitefish has more usage than much...

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

I would think an onboard lounge/bar car would be popular too. Board the train late evening, go have a nightcap then go to bed in your sleeper, wake up, have coffee and light breakfast the last 30 mins-1 hour onboard and then step off in the morning in the heart of the city. Would allow them to...

Amtrak.com cannot take Rail Passengers Association 7-digit ID number

Saw recently it said just use the last 6 digits of your 7 digital ID #. But to be honest they never check your number.

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

I seem to recall hearing this line through the Moffit Tunnel has very low utilization for freight like at most 4 trains a day. Certainly there's the tunnel exhausting issue but that it was no where near bumping into that limit. Would also likely explain the ease of adding the passenger trains to...

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

Is this less an issue with the latest engines (is it Tier IV?) and having such low emissions?

    Revival of Night Owl/Twilight Shoreliner

There might be some other markets outside the NEC where an overnight train makes a lot of sense, especially 6-10 hour journeys... NYC-Pittsburgh, Chicago-Minneapolis, NYC-Toronto to name a few that come to mind. I know a privately operated one has been talked about SF- LA. Also if something...

    What should Amtrak change?

Would love to see luggage lockers at stations as is/was common in Europe and perhaps some US train stations in the past (NYC Penn was one). I certainly know you can check bags with Red Cap/Baggage but that's limited to only stations with that service and quite expensive especially with multiple...

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

A new article mentioned that the State of Colorado can add three round trips a day at no cost (for access). That doesn't including the Zephyr or Ski Train. This is potentially a very exciting development to have frequent (by US standards) rail service in the I-70 corridor. 4-5 trains a day out...

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

I've done just that. I live in Seattle. Frontier Airlines has dirt cheap flights to Denver. Stay Downtown. Love skiing Winter Park. Unfortunately I passed on a Ikon pass this year and one day tickets at Winter Park are steep :(

    Emeryville, California layover question

I'd take the bridge. The distance is probably even shorter, given the east stair and elevator is right at the platform. The west side is the parking lot for the Public Market which is a fairly popular local destination that should be busy well into the evening. Once you are there you are...
