I'm not sure where it is heading next, but it was next to the Heartland Flyer and Texas Eagle in Fort Worth today.

it will be in toledo ohio saturday 5-5-2012
From what I'm hearing from some Amtrak officials involved with the 40th Anniversary Train, Toledo and New York will be the end of the line for the 40th Anniversary Train as we know it. The Genesis Phase III engine will be entered into regular service soon. Plans for the P40 remain up in the air, but there are discussions of turning it into a "cabbage" car for Midwest service. The display cars will be returned to Bear, DE and parked there. Some of the memroabilia will be returned to those who donated it. Those who didn't request their stuff back or permanently donated it to Amtrak will remain on the cars. The display cars will still be used for special grand re-openings of stations and other special events from what I am hearing.

It has been a good train day. When we got further south to Taylor, Texas, the Union Pacific 844 was there.

Is the layout of the 40th Ann train similar to what is running on the rails now or is it special. I just want to know if it is the same. We are going to see it this weekend, and are going to San Francisco in June on the cz and want to know what to exprct

No, you won't see the interior of the cars (as what is on the rails today). They are baggage cars, I believe, with displays set up in each. The last car, the "store" looked like it might be a lounge car. There is a sleeper next to the engine, but there's no public access to it.

Search the forum and you will find links to videos, pictures, layouts of the Superliner cars.

Enjoy your trip on the CZ.

I know exactly where it is - about three cars in front of me. It was hooked up to the front of the Texas Eagle 22 today which I'm on. Unfortunately, we were already 2.5 hours late (thanks, UP), and after the switching we're about 3.5 hours late.

That's incorrect. Jis posted a while back that Amtrak will keep the train in tack and use it for events. Further details can come from Jis himself.
The exhibit cars will NOT remain totally in-tact as they are. I personally know some people who have donated items that are on display in the cars right now who signed an agreement with Amtrak to have their memorabilia returned at the end of the run of the 40th Anniversary train (aka 2 week from now). Some people permanently donated items; those will remain on display; but not everything.

BTW, I forgot to mention... the plans call for the 40th Anniversary Store car/old cafe car to NOT remain with the exhibit cars after the 40th Anniversary train is done at NYG later this month. Amtrak doesn't quite know what they are going to do with it yet tho.

Leave it the way it is.. :) Same paint and the same layout. :) I'd dig that! :D I actually do understand this as it can be used out on the rails on a Regional.

Any ideas on how much stuff will be returned after May 12th?
