Day One Report Here: Day One

My original goal was to wake up early and then get to Swan Oyster Depot before the lines formed but with all the walking we did the day before, none of us woke up at 8AM as planned. So after getting ready, we decided to take a taxi to House of Nanking and try again. All three of us decided there would be minimal walking today. Taxi's in SF were really affordable. Prices ranged around $10 dollars from our hotel to most of the locations that we needed to get to. When we got to House of Nanking, they were not open yet but already had two family waiting outside. Once we got in and seated little past noon, the restaurant quickly filled up and the line started to grow outside quickly.

My friends who eaten here before gave me some advice such as letting the owner's wife order for you. We selected couple items that we must have and let the owner's wife (We Think) select one beef, one chicken and one seafood for us. We were NOT disappointed! The food is not traditional Chinese but more Chef Peter Fang's own creations.

Looks simple but the flavor on first taste was 10000%!

The Line During Dinner Time. We passed by in front

When the bill came and I tried to pay with cash, I was told that they are only taking credit cards today since the bank was closed and they felt unsafe with too much cash around (Really must me raking it in). After lunch, we took a taxi back to our hotel so we would take the cable car from the powell and mason street turntable which was just around the corner from our hotel. For all the times that we have been to San Francisco, this would be the first time riding on the cable car. We got in line and waited about 1.5 hours to get on the cable car. While waiting in line, the kettle corn vendor on the right was popping a fresh batch of popcorn and the aroma beckoned us to buy a bag of caramel popcorn.

Shots from the cable car. I sat down on the right side with my mom. My dad decided he wanted to stand on the side steps.

Once we got to Fisherman's Wharf, we decided to try Ghirardelli again. Yesterday when we tried to get in, it was insane, but today it ended up being more civilized. My parents had coffee and shared a banana split while I had their classic hot fudge sundae.

After all said and done, it was approaching 5PM so we decided to slowly head over to Chinatown (AGAIN) for dinner. All the taxi's that we tried to hire did not want to go into Chinatown. So we decided to walk to 1+ mile to Kearney and Jackson. On our walk up Columbus, we saw a pastry store in North Beach that seemed to be popular so I picked up some biscotti and sfogliatelle for our train ride back home tomorrow. When we got to Hunan Homes Restaurant, there was a 30 min wait. This restaurant also was rated highly online and everyone in town must have seen the review like I did.

Every table seemed to have an order of these pot stickers so we ordered them as well. Something got messed up and it came at the end of the meal but it still was good.

After dinner, we took a cab back to the hotel and went straight to the mall around the corner for some shopping. After browsing around Bloomingdales and Nordstroms, we headed back out and went to Macy's which was at a separate building on O'Farrell Street.

We could not end our last night of San Francisco gluttony without one last meal! We stopped at Dojima Ann Japanese restaurant a block from our hotel. We had been passing by it for the last two days and saw it was always crowded. Another 30 min wait and this is what we ate.
