#8 (1) is 11 hrs late in eastern ND and the extremely optimistic *estimate* for #8 is that it will get into Chicago at 12:50am. It will miss connections with #30, #48, #50, and all Michigan services & Illinois services.

In addition, #58 (2) is 6 hrs late and the estimate for Chicago is 5.5 hrs late.

Nice start to the year!

Any reasons? Thanks.

Suspect weather that either delayed 8 or delayed a freight that was on single track. Just for information Canadian #2 is over 12 hours late going toward Toronto. It also has a schedule make up at Winnipeg time of 4+ hours. VIA is also having schedule problems.

A lounge attendant, apparently reading from an Amtrak server, told me "frozen switches" was a primary cause.

Winter weather is a likely candidate this time of year be it snow, cold, or both.

Plunging temperatures over the last 12 hours is affecting a lot of things north of Interstate 80.

The #5 and #6 may have problems in the Rockies or even in California in the vicinity of Donner Pass.

Heck, the #3 and #4 could even have problems with Glorieta Pass and Raton Pass.

Clearly there needs to be an additional train between Chicago and Minneapolis. Since additional equipment is hard to find, maybe Siemens could build a couple extra Brightline train sets for the Midwest.
