I know that the Adirondack has to switch locomotives (from a P32AC-DM to a P42) at Albany. Do they allow passengers the time to get off the train and stretch out while they complete this process? It's been quite a while (over 15 years) since I last rode Amtrak through Albany.

Three weeks ago, I rode the Adirondack north from Albany to Montreal and then later that week, south from Montreal to New York - Penn.

So, I can't speak for the northbound trip, but on the southbound trip, we had about 20 minutes or so to walk around on the platform. It will likely depend on whether the train is on time or not.

Yes, they always allow passengers to walk around the platform while they are changing the locomotive (they have to change it anyway, and even when the train is late this takes a while).
