My wife and I both just applied for Chase's AGR Master Card (separate applications for double the fun) with 16,000 points awarded after the first purchase. The fine print indicates that 8,000 points go directly into my/her AGR account, while the other 8,000 points go on the Master Card account.

How do we get the 8,000 points (and any future points earned on the card) from the Master Card account into our AGR account? Are they swept into the AGR account automagically? If so, how often? Do we have to call Chase (or go to their website) to initiate the transfer?

Thanks in advance. Great forum you have here.

You don't have to do anything -- both sets of points will be deposited into the AGR account, on the same day (at least that was my experience and that of my wife). I don't understand why, but Chase seems to love multiple tranches of points.

Congratulations on getting the 16k offer. That's more than enough for a roomette from Atlanta to Albuqerque.

Ispolkom, thanks for that info.

We're planning to use the points for a Florida to New York trip in bedrooms next year. The plan is to use the cards for everything we normally spend money on, including as many of our bills as we can. At first, we'll use both cards until both accounts have 20,000 points, then retire one card and use the other card for everything.

Looking ahead to our second AGR award trip, we're thinking about a 2-zone loophole from Atlanta to Seattle RT. 5 nights each way for 60,000 points. Wouldn't want to have 42,000 points in one account and 18,000 in the other. Thus, the focus on just using one Card after both accounts reach the initial 20,000.

As Ispolkom said, you don't need to do anything. The points will be transferred directly into your AGR account. Usually within a day or 2 of the closing date of the statement. (Example: The statement closes on the 10th, the points will be applied to your card by the 12th! )

I use my card mostly for "luxuries" like food and gas - but I also pay everything with it. I usually earn 1,000-2,000 points per month for doing what I normally do!

Me too. Everything from a $5 McDonald's purchase, gas, New York Times subscription, local grocery store, online purchases, hotels, dining out. Basically anyone who takes Mastercard gives me points each month! :)

Like the_traveler, I average 1000-2000 points each month. I wonder if my mortgage holder will take a Mastercard payment? Hmm. . .

That's good to know. Thanks.

We've been using an Amazon Visa from Chase for years and do the same thing. I rarely carry cash with me anymore. Over the years, we've gotten several card offers for cards with cash back, or various rewards points, but never saw anything worth switching. Amazon rewards points are worth a little over 1% cashback.

But when I saw the deal on the AGR MasterCard from Chase and did some quick calculations of the value of a point, I soon realized that we could get as much as 7-8% value in train travel with it. We love to travel, and seeing the country by train has always sounded so very cool. Can't wait to do it. We've already got our first three AGR trips figured out!

You're a big spender compared to me. I've been known to charge a 50-cent greeting card purchase at the dollar store.

My mortgage holder won't do it either. But we're almost paid up anyhow.

I've been paying some of my monthly bills with my bank's online bill pay. But once I get the AGR MasterCard, I'm going to see how many of them I can paying using it.

In this case, the reason for two postings of 8,000 points is that Chase is paying for the first 8,000. That's the points that are referred to as going on the "Master Card account." Once AGR sees those points come over from Chase, AGR buys the other 8,000 points and you get the two postings of 8,000 that total to the promised 16,000.
