Well, it's that dumb time of the year where I'm going to be taking the Keystone from Ardmore to PHL and back several times to hit AGR Select for 2009 (since I was in no-train-land for so much of the year), and that means I'm making a lot of online reservations in a flurry. I have a user profile saved at amtrak.com which has my name, email, phone, billing address, mailing address, etc, and I've updated all of those to reflect having moved so I don't have to change those fields on every reservation.

But there's also the section for billing info -- credit card type, number, expiration, and magic code -- which is auto-filled when I make a reservation, but it's auto-filled for an old expired credit card I no longer use. And the user profile page doesn't include any place to input a new default credit card (nor any way to remove an old default credit card). So I have to change this every time, and it's somewhat annoying (and stands out when I'm making five reservations in a row).

Is there a less-than-obvious (or so blindingly obvious I missed it!) way to change/add credit card information to one's user profile?

I could also see that they might have decided sometime in the past few years that it was a security risk to have any credit card information stored on-site and thus removed the option to add credit card information to one's profile, but if that's the case why is there no option to remove existing credit card information?

[And for those with really good memories wondering why I didn't get all those points back in November on the Texas Eagle, I wound up cancelling those Thanksgiving travel plans to the Midwest, electing instead to just move back to the east coast.]

I wonder if you need to go into your web browser's "Preferences" file, delete the old Amtrak-dot-com cookies, and replace them with new cookies. You also might have to remove Amtrak-dot-com from the autofill settings of the web browser. that way you are entering new data into the computer and over writing the out of date data.

I don't remember how, but I think I did so.

Also, don't forget that due to a recent change, you only get the 100 point minimum on the first 4 segments per day, After that, it is just a straight 2 points per $! (An $8 ticket would earn only 16 points after 4 segments for that day!)

Veering briefly into AGR Forum territory, apologies all: but there's also still a "only one leg in each direction on any given route per day get 100-minimum points" rule, right? Or was that lifted when the new "four legs per day" rule was created?

And veering very briefly into travelog territory, I'm posting from my first Amtrak train in about five months! :) More on that later in the correct place when I'm on a stable connection.

Oh, very good idea--that's probably right, it's Firefox auto-filling those and not Amtrak. I'll test that when I get home. Thanks!

Purchasing a ticket at Amtrak.com with my user profile resulted in a ticket being issued and mailed to me. I didn't want it to be on my credit card yet and would have preferred to pick it up in Chicago the next time I go there.

The next time I purchase a ticket, I won't go through my user profile.

It was actually changed to " ... 2 round trips or 4 one way segments per day ..."! T&C section C.4.:

Except as provided in this Section, Members who provide their Membership Number at the time of ticket purchase will earn 2 Points for every $1 spent on Amtrak travel, a minimum of 100 Points for each trip. A maximum of two roundtrips or four one-way trips, per member, per day will be allowed to earn points under the 100 point minimum per trip rule. Any trips subsequent to the maximum of two roundtrips or four one-ways, per member, per day will receive 2 Points for every $1 if the trips point value exceeds 100 points.

As I understand it, the second you purchase a ticket, for pick up or delivery, it is charged to your card. They don't wait to charge you until you pick it up...

And using your user profile wouldn't affect whether the ticket was mailed. As far as I know, Amtrak only mails tickets now if the station you are departing from does not allow for ticket pickup. If you want to pick up the ticket in Chicago (assuming that's not your departure city) then you have to order with an agent over the phone, unless I am mistaken.

When I changed my itinerary slightly a few months after buying on line and not taking delivery, I was advised that the trip would be re-billed at the new charge, and that both the original billing and the new billing may show on my cc statement, until the credit went thru on the original charge.

That's right about being charged to my card right away. It's been a while since I last purchased a ticket.

Also, while I have always departed from Chicago in the past, this last ticket has a departure from Rockford, Illinois, where there is no station. It's an Amtrak bus pickup point.
