Annoying baseball fans

I often take the train from Bloomington to Chicago and on Fridays it is mostly Cubs fans on it. They are quite an annoying bunch, constantly cussing, drinking and flirting with women. I wonder is this normal for all basbeball fans?

Nope, just the ones that watch annoying baseball.

We went thru Denver last year on the way to Chicago on the CZ, and the Cubs were visiting Denver. There were quite a few Cubs fans on the way back home. Talkative and friendly, I didn't notice any unruly or drunk fans. Had some interesting conversations. Probably the luck of the draw.

True. Knowing a number of Cubs fans (and being one myself), baseball doesn't have to be involved for a fan to make a toast to the Cubs. In other words, baseball is used as an excuse to drink.

On days when the Illinois Zephyr is at high bucket you know there is a day game at Wrigley. The train is more lively; but I've never seen the type behavior you are describing. And I have a low tolerance for red neck rendezvous.

Before anyone gets excited, I use the term to describe behavior; and it has nothing to do with geographic area, occupation, race, creed, or color, etc.

There are some of us baseball fans who are dull, boring, and uninteresting. I plead guilty to that instead of cussing, drinking, and flirting. :lol: In three weeks and a day I will take an Amtrak trip to Seattle from Spokane and will spend a couple of days in Seattle. Part of that time will be spent at Safeco Field watching a game between the Cubs and Mariners.

I remember years ago going from Bloomington to Chicago with my uncle to a Cubs game and there were many loud, drunk, and obnoxious. And this was going TO the game.

No: cussing, drinking and flirting with women is not normal. Most of us baseball fans only have one or two of those attributes, not all three.

It definitely varies by region. Cubs, Yankees, and Mets fans tend to trend more towards the obnoxious side. Whereas Marlins, Rays, Orioles, and Gnats fans are pretty docile.

It isn't really unique to baseball either - college or pro, any sport (just like any other random group of folks) is going to have it's share of a-holes.

It's just like the railfans, it is the few that gives the hobby a bad name. Most fans are normal hard working people with a great pasion for the subject.

Pyramid Brewery & Alehouse right across the street from the ballpark! Website doesn't mention tours, but got one in '01. Girlfriend at the time was petrified that several samples would get me all het up to drag her over to the day game in progress. Not a fan.

Did yall forget the most fanatical/obnoxious of all baseball fans: Phillies and The Sox!!!Who else would Boo! That refers to Amtrak's bucket pricing system - all the seats on the train are allocated to 5 different price "buckets". As the sell the seats they sell them all in the low bucket, then move up to the next price and sell all of those, and so on up the line. So, if you get a ticket for the cheapest price, that's "at low bucket".

I grew up an Orioles fan, and quickly changed my allegiance to the Nationals when they came to town (it helps that their stadium is 2 blocks from my office). I loath Peter Angelos and look forward to the day that he sells the team (hopefully to the Ripkes) and I can return to rooting for my childhood team.
