As many of you already know, I take the Surfliner train quite frequently. In the morning, the attendants will greet you at the door and then disappear to their seat the whole trip. But yesterday, our business class attendant greeted us at the door. Came around to each passenger and explained to them of the breakfast buffet setup, and even came around collecting trash. And the best part of all, she added flowers and fanned out napkins at the buffet area. With all the negativity we read on here about service, I thought I would share some positive story.

Thanks for sharing. On the few occasions traveling BC on the Surfliner I too experience Attendants Missing In Action. Nice to see someone trying to make a difference.

We had an amazing business class attendant, Cathy on our first and only venture on the Surfliner. She even bought some special goodies. I actually kind of felt bad about hogging her attention but once she heard the trip we are on, she wanted all the details. She was special though, since she had worked all the long distance trains, including the dining car so I'm guessing that being a business car attendant was a piece of cake for her. When we boarded in SLO, she told us which side to sit on, etc. Loved her.

Curious, as I used to do same when I ran on what was once called Club Car, do you feel like, or did you, tip the LSA, because they greeted you, helped you, informed you, made the presentation "nice", removed the trash, etc?

I always tip the LSA in the evenings and the morning ones only if something is different like last morning. Most times they are in their seat reading newspaper or on their phone. In the evening they all do drink and snack service at seat.

Why does the old proverb "The nail that sticks up gets pounded flat" come to mind?
