Well looking at the times involved, The train is making up an hour at each end. There's no simple solution to make up 12 hours. The only feasible solution would to be annul the train in each direction. To help the sets and the crews relax and take a break.
Not so relaxing for passengers, however.
True. But the crews have been dealing with passengers not shutting up about the delays.

Well it is more relaxing than being told that their train has been cancelled and that they now need to drive that 850 miles on their own; at least IMHO.

Agreed.

The Rocky Mount spotters tell me that 52(01) is crossing the Roanoke River at Weldon into Virginia now, which puts it a little over two hours late. That should provide an arrival into LOR with sufficient time to originate 53(02) on-time this afternoon.

Edit: typo

Back on schedule. Amtrak iPhone app reports 53 departed Lorton 20 minutes EARLY this afternoon.

According to some posts on Facebook, the northbound Auto Train has been having brake issues on its auto carriers, and may not have arrived in Lorton yet (12+ hours late). The southbound is thus in a service disruption, and is scheduled to depart Lorton ca. 2am ET.

they ordered subway for everyone as well as cheese, cracker and.veggie trays....water...and the mini wine tasting....
You would have to believe that passengers on the delayed northbound had Amtrak's famous (infamous?) Mystery Stew for lunch and dinner? I wonder though if hotel accommodations were provided to passengers as well for the very late train. It is conceivable that if the train was 12 hours late some unlucky passengers would not receive their vehicle until around 11:00 PM. That could be a long drive home for some at an ungodly hour.
They gave the passengers coming from Florida a voucher (Letter) advising them that they would get $65.00 for hotel reimbursement.....I was one of the passengers and it is now 9/3/2013 and they have not reimbursed me, and after I was told that someone would call or at least send me an email, I still have neither.....I was a loyal rider but after this treatment count ;me out! Yes we got the Mystery stew for lunch.....but no dinner. We got in after the restaurants were closed!

Audrye, Call Customer Relations and ask for an update. They should have some information about your claim.

Don't let one bad experience dictate your choice for the future. I know I don't and many other users on this forum do the same as I do.
