I want to use my AGR points for a round trip on the Auto Train. We are going in February 2015. We don't have quite enough for a bedroom round trip. How long do you think we can wait before we book our trip. I don't want it to sell out.

AT sells out frequently during that period. If you want a bedroom it'll be more points. Roomette would be less. Keep in mind you'll need points for the car or svu or whatever you take.

I would say the sooner the better when making AT reservations during peak travel periods such as your February departure. With that said, I am a frequent AT traveler and have been able to make sleeping car reservations less than two weeks out from departure dates. I find cancellations occur daily for whatever reason and I have taken advantage of this situation.

How to save 30,000 points on the auto train? Book the bedrooms AGR, pay cash for the car. I was thrilled and did a very long happy dance to find out that you now have that option when you book the auto train with AGR
