hi, we are taking the CZ to Emeryville and getting the connecting bus to fisherman's W, when we get off the train, i assume we collect our checked baggage and take it to the bus, is this correct?

Generally they bring the checked luggage right to the bus loading area and you just claim your bag at curbside and hand it right to the driver to load under the bus.

Emeryville really isn't that large a station, and picking up your luggage there is a piece of cake. The buses pull up right in front of the station, maybe 200 feet from where you claim your luggage. It's best to find out how Amtrak is going to handle your luggage, but if things really go south you'll be able to get everything back together in a matter of minutes. My wife left her purse on the Coast Starlight southbound, and that purse was back in the Emeryville station within an hour. Proper ID is required, but that was all in the purse. They let her open the purse and produce her photo ID.

I'm taking the CZ this summer, and was wondering about this, as well, so thanks for the information! Is it a fairly simple connection from the train to the bus at EMY?

It is possible to check your bags to the Ferry Building too. But if you're getting off at the Wharf, might as well tag your bags for EMY. It's a moot point anyway because your bags will go under the bus anyway.

Yes, very easy. The busses are right outside the station door. It's a small station, so it will take you maybe 30-60 seconds from train to bus.

^^ What he said. ^^ :)

I believe that both the CS and the CZ pull in on the closest track to the station building (the CC has always been on the next track out when I've been on it).

Google satellite view.

When I took the CZ last summer to Emeryville, baggage which was checked thru to San Francisco was unloaded from the train onto a cart, and taken over to the bus. You then merely took your baggage off the cart and gave it to the bus driver to load into the bus.

However, ONE NOTE OF CAUTION: Be sure your bags have some distinctive markings, ribbons, or the like to reduce the chances that someone will mistakenly take your bag. The bus makes several stops along the way. We got off at the 4th and final stop (on Market), and one of the passengers who got off with us complained that their bag was missing. At the same time, there was one bag left unclaimed in the bus, which the passenger said looked just like theirs but wasn't theirs. So it seems that someone at an earlier stop took theirs by mistake.
