And this site actually has decent moderation keeping things civil. That place is a free for all with full tolerance of bickering and over the top nasty comments towards other posters.
Back on topic here is the latest post from "2904" who it appears finally got the full story.

"They are shutting down the assembly line type process they call Coach 1 that rebuilds cars in stages, all the jobs are being abolished and the employees must rebid to jobs in Coach 2, essentially where cars are parked until they are fully repaired and ready to leave. Probably a rearranging of the deck chairs. "

Quite amazing how things can change once you get the full story.

Well Amtrak is contracting out the Superliner refresh so this could mean they’re putting all efforts into returning rolling stock to service faster that sat for months. Also would explain why there’s no job postings at Beech Grove.

That would make sense. Some of this work at Beech Grove - to hopefully get Amtrak passenger rolling stock back in operable and running condition - should have been put out for contract with third party provider a while ago. Yes, there’s a worker shortage and institutional knowledge that’s been lost, but other carrier are having maintenance and overhaul work done through third party vendors, or in-house - done faster than Amtrak‘s been able to accomplish. Just saying…..

No, Amtrak Is Not Planning Beech Grove Layoffs​

In a meeting this morning with Amtrak executive leadership, Association President & CEO Jim Mathews confirmed that Amtrak is not laying off staff at the Beech Grove, In.

“The online rumor started three days ago when a person claimed to have spoken to an affected employee, a story that quickly ran into skepticism from other posters on the board who know that Amtrak is desperately short of staff right now.”…………….

That would make sense. The shortages of people who can or want to do certain types of work affects outside companies as well. I'm not so sure there are too many outside shops that can take on the volume of work in question with any appreciable time savings. Many of the vendors who have the ability to do this work are already booked and Amtrak would not be put at the front of the line.
