Aloha

A bunch of years ago in November I rode the Desert Wind from LA to Vegas, and coming through the mountain n pass it was still light enough to see the mountain desert scenery yet the Vegas City lights were on. If one has been lucky to see the Vegas city lights you can understand the combined beauty of that route.

entering 30th Street Station is pretty cool at night.
Your surely joking?? :help:

When you cross the River and that's about it.. You see the Skyline, then see the tunnels of Zoo Interlocking for a while, then on to I76 and the "ShortKill" Until you pull into PHL then it's back to I76 and onto nothing really. The NEC in the PHL area is the worse! :(

I love coming into New York on the train. Mostly it has been from Boston - when I ride LSL I go to Boston not New York. NOw and then i ride the Northeast Regional. I will be on it in March, BOS-NYP, on my way to FL on the Meteor. And back.

I have seen your references to Hell Gate Bridge and I know I have been over it - but don't really have a sense of where it is in the larger picture. Does anyone have a link to a map that shows that train route into Manhattan?

>>Edit:

OK I have seen it on the map. I have been in to town that way a few times but didn't know where that great view was located. Now I do.

I always enjoyed riding into Grand Central Terminal on the Lake Shore Limited in the 80's. That was a New York Entrance! And a fantastic station. The LSL into Penn is OK. As a young kid with my family we spent time at Penn in the 70's transferring trains...then I didn't go back until 1994 or so...wow...what disappointing changes! Riding into Chicago is always amazing. It doesn't matter to me if it's Amtrak or Metra. Cleveland always is special too, since I always seemed to get stuck there while riding Amtrak in the 90's!

Even tho it no longer exist....the Desert Wind dropping off that last mountian southbound into Vegas. I had to laugh at some passengers getting roll's of quarters for gambling money at the ready an still had a good 30/45 minutes before the station.
