Best Strategy for couples...

I'm New to Amtrak Guest Rewards and trying to help my older neighbor husband and wife with signing up for Amtrak Guest Rewards and trying to teach them how to shop/book tickets on the Amtrak web-site.

This forum is my only "Go To" resource for answers as I'm still so green to all of this I look like St. Patrick's Day in September.

My idea; 1. I refer husband to AGR. I get 500 pts for referring Hubby

2. Husband registers and now has AGR # ...... Hubby gets 500 pts. for signing up.

3. Hubby refers wife to AGR. Hubby gets 500 pts for referal.

4. Wife registers, (at her own e-mail address) gets AGR #, gets 500 pts. for signing up.

Is this right?

Wife and Husband pair need their own individual AGR numbers to earn points for travel, right?

When they do book, should they be traveling by sleeper have one "pay" for the outbound train, then have the other spouse "pay" for the return.

No need to transfer points to one account to booking a round trip AGR reward.

I say "pay" due to coming changes ito the AGR system next year.

Thanks!! Spent over 2 hours trying to sign up hubby. Finally had to get Guest Rewards Agent involved. Agent was able to see everything we had done but no clue as to why we couldn't generate AGR# for hubby. Finally Agent enrolled hubby manually, made notes in record and I will have to file for Missing Points after they travel. Since hubby now has number but no access to web because agent never did password we call again tomorrow and plod on.

All Agents involved were very nice and apologetic saying the web page is undergoing major reuild for new program launch in Jan '16.

Remind them that if they travel in a sleeper, the first name on the reservation gets the points for the sleeper.

Best to make separate reservations for outgoing and return anyway. No price break for round trip and more days available for cancellation/modification of the return.
