Gyros are quite popular in Chicago as well and if you find the right place, they are quite good. I cut my teeth on Gyro Meat at various places in the Northwest Suburbs and thought nothing could be better than a Chicago Gyro until I moved to Norman and found the Greek House on Campus Corner. I'll trade 4 Greek House Gyros for 2 Large Al's or a Medium Giordano's!

In the spring of 1996 when I was interning at what was the UPN affiliate in Chicago, I often ate lunch at a nearby hot dog stand that also served gyros, and had a poster on the wall that said "It tastes better when you say 'yee-ro'!"

I always got a hot dog (and fries, and a banana milkshake), but I still remember that poster. And that hot dog stand is no longer around, sadly. Neither is the UPN television network.
