BTW, I had no idea that someone actually did a study of transporting Abrams tanks on TGV!!!! Wonders never cease!
When they absolutely, positively have to be there overnight, I guess.

I'm not terribly surprised...the TGVs were initially built during the Cold War. If all hell had broken loose and had somehow stayed conventional for a while, you'd want to know what every part of your network was capable of so you could plan/act accordingly.

Of course, that would have been a hell of a twist on the old "taxicabs to the Marne" story.

Edit: Actually, I looked through the report. While the discussion involved moving tanks around, it's interesting to see a serious look at what would be involved in a true "high speed freight" network.
