I plan to visit the US via Vancouver, and take the train to see for myself the country that is America.

Is there a way to Connect Amtrak Cascades to Amtrak Zephyr, perhaps by bus? I want my final stop to be California...

Thanks,

NIck

You can take the Coast Starlight from Seattle all the way to San Francisco(Emeryville) which is where the California Zephyr departs from.

So I would say Cascades to Seattle-Coast starlight to Emeryville(SF).

It looks to me like the Cascades and the Coast starlight use the same route from Seattle to Eugene Oregon.

I don`t think you will have to ride a bus at all to do the trip.

You can call 1-800-USA Rails and somone from AMTRAK can help you with all the details.

I just booked my whole transcon trip with them yesterday, and they were most helpful!

Best Regards,

Tony D.

From Vancouver, if you take the Cascade, beginning with Seattle down to Eugene/Springfield the route is the same as the Coast Starlight. If you switch trains at any of those points, the Starlight will take you on down to Emeryville to catch the Zephyr.

Just to clarify what some others have said, you *can* do a rail-only trip, but as of today, it will require a one night stop-over in Seattle, as the Vancouver-Seattle Cascade arrives long after the Coast Starlight has departed. (There is talk of adding an additional train frequency from Vancouver to Seattle and vice versa, but no firm start date yet, and no guarantee that it'll leave early enough to connect with the Starlight).

Alternatively, Amtrak does provide a same-day, guaranteed motorcoach connection to the Starlight from Vancouver, but it leaves Vancouver at 5:30 AM.

Also keep in mind that if you take the motorcoach connection, the fare for the Vancouver-Seattle segment *should* be significantly cheaper (around $20 cheaper, based on what I'm seeing when booking the itinerary via amtrak.com) than booking two separate segments for a rail-only (overnighted) connection.
