Cost of unpaid hold

i'm on hold now with amtrak but here's a question.. this morning i made an unpaid reservation (held for 1 day until tomorrow).. ok no prob.. but i get home and was looking up the times of train to put on my calendar and the price is LOWER than the hold.. so what happens to my held price? do i pay the higher price or get the lower price?

How about this:

Call Amtrak and make a reservation (which you will pay for via phone) for the lower price. Then call Amtrak again and tell them your plans have changed and you don't want them to hold the earlier reservation for you.

Exactly. Or just book the ticket online at the lower price, and cancel the hold when the agent comes on.
