We'll be traveling non-stop from NYC to NYOL in July.

Will the menu "City of New Orleans" be availible or will it be the "Crescent menu"?

The Crescent menu will be available for your trip to New Orleans. The City of New Orleans menu is available on the train from NOL to Chicago.

Yes, I believe there is a cafe-lounge car on the Crescent, along with the diner.

We're so very exited about our train trip and all those small details suddenly seems important :-D

Are you going coach or sleeper? If you are going coach, a roomette from Atlanta to New Orleans can be gotten cheaply (sometimes $47) and it includes three meals for two people (about $100 value if you get the most expensive things). Sometimes the sleepers can get expensive for the whole trip, but the passenger load goes down significantly at Atlanta and they get cheap.

We booked a sleeper back in Febuary, so we got it for $667 - a decent price I think. We very early on in our planning knew we wanted a long train trip, since it's a beautiful way of experiencing the changing landscape when one has to move from point A to point B.

But now that the time for our trip gets closer, we're just so super excited, and when talking about the trip all those small questions pops up. This forum is GREAT for planning and helping us imagine what is will be like to travel by an Amtrak train.
