Britain has 1 HSR line which is the London to Paris line, it opened in the 2000's and was built by the French., we are trying to get HS2 (high speed line 2)opened between London and Manchester but that is decades away and already over budget due to red tape and close to being axed due to the NIMBYs along the route.

But Britain has been running 125mph trains since the 1970s on several hundred miles of track. In many countries such speeds would already qualify as HSR, and indeed for many years the British government argued against proper HSR on the basis of 125mph being good enough for the distances involved. The Intercity 125 program did in fact help the railways regain ground in terms of market share, customer value and confidence at a time that the outlook for railways was otherwise fairly dismal. It was for all effects and purposes a high speed train without the glitter.
