Haven't seen anything recently regarding overnighting in PDX at your own expense on a single travel redemption. Is that still being allowed or has that been pulled?

Getting ready to call and hopefully set up a CHI to LAX via PDX (overnight) on a single 2-zone redemption.

Thanks

Not sure if it is still allowed. I booked the same itinerary two months ago and the agent let me overnight in PDX on a two zone reward, but it took about twenty minutes to get the approval. 27 to 11 is a published route. Seems the timekeeping into PDX is getting better.

AGR insider said it was allowed on flyertalk. I'm on my phone so I can't post a link. Too hard and I'm lazy. But I don't believe he has said it's disallowed. So I would call and ask for supervisor if agent won't book it.

I had problems booking the connection soon after AGR Insider said it was allowed. The supervisor claimed that my routing had never been allowed, which was incorrect. For what it's worth, the 27-11 connection is allowed without an overnight starting October 1. If I were traveling in a roomette, I'd roll the dice and book it as is. Either you'd make the connection, or the overnight would be Amtrak's expense. I doubt that the Coast Starlight would sell out of roomettes.

That being said, I'd expect to miss the connection, because traffic isn't going to improve on the Hi Line during harvest season. I'm traveling to Minot in the first part of October and plan on epic delays.

Hmm, if you travel on 10/1, it's actually cheaper to travel via Portland than direct on the Southwest Chief.

Spoke with someone who understood what I was talking about. It appears, since the 27/11 route will be a "published route" when I plan to travel next year, a voluntary overnight in PDX on a single AGR redemption is not possible My 40,000 points are on the SWC now! I did some "what-if'n" on the website and November 15 indeed appears to be the return to a published route utilizing #27 and #11.
