Hello, I would like to redeem a two-zone from El Paso, to New York.

I would, however, like to do it via New Orleans (the Crescent)

Will AGR allow me a one-night stopover in New Orleans?

Since the Sunset arrives NOL at 4:00pm, I would need to spend one night in NOL before transferring to the Crescent at 7:00am out of NOL.

This does come up on the Amtrak.com as a selection, but the overnight is confusing me---not sure if that is allowed for an AGR redemption.

Thanks

Normally, an overnight stop on an AGR award is not allowed. But due to the SL being 3 days a week, the connection between the SL and Crescent (and in fact CONO) requires an overnight stay in NOL. (This assumes that you take the next train out. Such as arriving on Monday, you must take Tuesday's train. You can not take Fridays train on the same reward!)

If the choice comes up on the website, it can be booked as an AGR award!

BTW - As you're probably aware, the overnight stay is on your dime.

Thanks, also I just realized I could go via the Sunset, to the Texas Eagle, to the Lake Shore Limited! (came up as an option on Amtrak.com)

Three trains, three nights, two-zones, no stopovers required!

Hmmm, it's a toss-up right now for me, which would you guys do???

Actually, if you take "train" #422 from ELP, it goes to CHI - and you get to sleep through the overnight stop at SAS. But if you book "train" #2 and connect to "train" #422 in SAS, you have to disembark at SAS and you can not re-board train #422 until about 6:30 AM! (There is only 1 coach and 1 sleeper that run as "train" #422 between SAS and LAX, and those 2 cars - and only those 2 cars - are switched between trains!)

Personally, I :p (and many others on this forum!) would chose the TE to CHI and then go on to NYP! :D It gives a longer ride, more included meals and nights - and no overnight that you have to pay!
