What are some of the biggest tourist attractions by State/City? Like the Statue of Liberty, Sears Tower, Space Needle, Gateway Arch, Mount Rushmore, the White House, etc.? I'd like to see 'em all before I die!

Can you be a bit more specific? Do you want to know what monuments can be reached by Amtrak? Or just a list in general? (But then why would you post this on Amtrak forum)

To start off with some you can reach by Amtrak with nearest station and trains to take-

- Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Empire State Building -> New York (Acela Express, Northeast Regionals and a ton of other trains)

- White House, The Capitol, Washington Monument, several museums -> Washington DC (--same as above--)

- Sears Tower -> Chicago (more than a dozen trains)

- Grand Canyon -> Williams, AZ (Southwest Chief)

- Golden Gate Bridge -> San Francisco (Coast Starlight and other corridor trains and buses)

- Space Needle -> Seattle (Coast Starlight, Empire Builder and Cascades)

- Niagara Falls -> Niagara Falls (Maple Leaf)

Continuing.....

Gateway Arch, St. Louis, MO via Lincoln service/ from Chicago;Texas Eagle from Chicago/San Antonio; Mo. River Runner from Kansas City, Mo

Hollywood (Los Angeles, CA) via Sunset Limited/Tesas Eagle, Southwest Chief, Coast Starlight, Pacific Surfliners & Amtrak Thruway Busses

Disneyland, Anaheim CA, via Pacific Surliners

Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby, Colorado via California Zehphyr

French Quarter New Orleans, LA via Sunset Limited, City of New Orleans

This list could go on and on and on........

Go for it. Glad to help you with your "bucket" list!

Disney World, Sea World, Universal, etc. > Silvers, AT

Glacier Park > Empire Builder

Mt. Hood > Coast Starlight

Las Vegas > Oops, no trains

Fort Sumpter, Charleston, SC (Palmetto, Silver Meteor)

Independence Hall, Philadelphia, PA (All NEC routed trains)

Cabrillo, San Diego, CA (Pacific Surfliner)

Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine, FL (Silvers)

Fort McHenry, Baltimore, MD (NEC trains)

Disney World, Sea World, Universal, etc. > Silvers, AT

Glacier Park > Empire Builder

Mt. Hood > Coast Starlight

Las Vegas > Oops, no trains
Just go to Reno via California Zephyr. They take your money just as fast as Vegas!

Thanks guys!

I'm planning a big trip around the continent mainly via Amtrak (plus other connections so I can see the states Amtrak doesn't reach). I was mainly looking for a list in general, since at one point I'll be in nearly every state that has a famous landmark. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Charleston, SC - The Silver Meteor & Palmetto - Civil War History, Historic Downtown

Savannah, GA - The Silvers & Palmetto - Historic Downtown

Williamsburg, VA - NERs - Colonial Williamsburg

Alexandria, VA - NERs + 6 others - Historic Old Town

Fredericksburg, VA - NERs + 4 others - Civil War History

Dealey Plaza, Dallas TX - Texas Eagle

There should be a monument there or national shrine or something! An emotionally powerful site.
There is the Sixth Floor Museum and it is only a couple minutes walk from the Dallas Union Station. In fact the 6th floor gives a nice view of the train tracks diverging in three directions with one line going over the Trinity river bridge. Sadly, photography from there is not permitted.

Being a Kennedy Assasination Buff, I really appreciated my SCA opening the exit door window so I could get photos of the plaza, grassy knowl & the dirt parking lot where the tower was!
