I followed the deep, savory trail of hype to Giordano's, the last time I was in that city. For me, their pizza was disgusting. The crust rolled up to form a bowl, filled with at least an inch of cheese, making a pie as thick and gooey as a quiche. Sorry, guys, but not everybody's that into cheese! My tastes tend towards NY pizza styles. A pizza I enjoyed in Delaware last week had a crisp crust, a sweetened tomato sauce, ample toppings and remarkably little cheese, less than a quarter-inch of it. Yummmmm!
:hi: As Ive said before IMO there are better Pizza Joints in Chicago (sacrilege @AU  )but New Yawkers wouldnt know good Pizza from the Box it came in! Ive had Pizza all over the world and the best Pizza I've had was, believe it or not, a Seafood (fresh) Pizza in a Small Fishing Village in Southern Mexico!! I personally think that the Chicago Style Hot Dogs  are better than their Pizza, but as the Old Maid said: "To each their own as she kissed the Cow!"

I grew up in upstate NY and now live in RI, so I've had "NY style" pizza all my life. It was not until I went to Giordano's a few years ago that I ever had deep dish pizza. I prefer it over "NY style"!

Aloha

When the Gathering converged on Chicago on the Way to Boston we had pizza from Giordano's Delivered to us at the Chicago station, where around 15 of us had maybe 6 different styles of their pizza. Heck I even had a salad choice. So before you give up on them, try a different style.

On the way to the Gathering in St Louis, several of us, except for Penny, had Giordano's pizza in

Chicago Metro lounge. As I recall, there wasn't any leftovers!!

OK, I'll "bite." Where was this pizza in Delaware?

Enroute to Gathering IV, approximately 15 AU'ers met at the Metro Lounge and ate

Giordano's pizza for lunch. It was well received by all. A few did drink a diet soda!!

A few of us will be transiting in Chicago enroute to Seattle, so perhaps another Giordano's

lunch is in order.
Dick: Guess Penny will have to go to Whole Paycheck again to eat! Ya'll should find a Joint that serves food she can eat! (I'm in the there are better Pizza Joints in CHI Club but you can't beat the Convience of G's!!)
Edwardo's comes to mind.........

I also think Giordano's is over rated. The last time I had their deep dish pizza it was obvious that it was a day old shell with filling put on top and everything heated up. Maybe their regular pizza is better, but I wouldn't recommend the deep dish pizza.

You may have a good point Betty. It's sorta like someone getting off at NYP and going to the first hot dog stand and declaring it "The Best of the best." Maybe we need to find a well recommended pizzeria in Chicago that delivers and compare notes. Looks like I'm taking the City to Chicago and Empire Builder over so I might do a little research. Anybody have any ideas about a fab pizzeria that delivers to CUS ?

I rarely ever meet a pizza I don't get along with and even though I grew up in Chicago, enjoy BOTH Chicago and NY Style pizza. Put a Giordano's and a Lou Malnati's Plain Cheese side by side and I'll eagerly eat both, but generally have found Giordano's to be a cat's whisker better.

I have never eaten a cat whisker  What does it add to a pizza? :giggle:

I always thought that a Las Vegas pizza included a cat whisker, or is that a Rhode Island pizza??

No, RI pizzas have quahogs and lob-stah on them!

My cats tell me that "cat whiskers" taste like chicken!

:hi: : "To each their own as she kissed the Cow!"
Now, I've been around the block several times, but never heard that one before!!!!
My dad use to say this expression, except he referred to kissing a particular part of the cow... :help: :giggle:    What can I say, he was an odd man, but he did give me my love  of trains!
