Amtrak Guest Rewards has started a new tier, making it easier to cash in your points for free trips. Previously, the lowest travel award you could use cost 2500 points, which gets you a one-zone ride in unreserved coach. Now, one step below that is a 1000-point award for a coach class ride in unreserved coach on what is termed "special routes" (all are still within one zone). These routes are all corridor routes:
* Cascades
* San Joaquins
* Pacific Surfliners
* Capitols
* Hiawathas
To travel in Business Class on the above trains, where available, is 1500 points.
