Keepin mind that scheduling doesn't always go well. If 6 gets hung up on donner pass behind a freight or something, the efforts involved in getting somebody on in truckee could be more complicated.

Best to keep it simpler by doing things out of Reno. Lots of great ideas. Be interesting to read the trip report.

Congratulations.

So all these suggestions have been extremely great... I think I'm going to try out Sorcha's and Sunchaser's as my final solution: pack a small, separate duffle bag with some various decorations / items / battery candles, etc... and then slip a note to my SCA when my wife and I go to have dinner, and ask him/her to unpack the duffle and arrange the items when they set up the room for the night. Might even be able to talk to him/her briefly without my wife seeing, to confirm they can do it. We'll see how it goes!!

P.S. - So at my first post, I mentioned that I had tried to contact the regular customer service department at Amtrak. Well, they finally replied to me today with this:

Thank you for contacting us.

Regrettably, special items... delivered to a sleeping car room or elsewhere are not available on Amtrak trains. Passengers traveling in sleeping accommodations may bring onboard and consume in their room champagne and other special food items that do not require heating or storage by Amtrak. You may also bring onboard your own blanket and pillows if you wish. We hope this information is useful.

Darn, was hoping to have lucked out and reached someone who would have been able to give a bit more personable of a response! Oh well - probably will indeed have the best luck talking to the SCA directly anyways :)
