How will rising diesel fuel prices affect Amtrak? (poll)

With Amtrak having extended less-than-daily operation on a number of trains until at least late-May, I think it's probably safe to say increased service or capacity is fairly unlikely.

I don't think rising fuel prices is anywhere near the top of the list of issues faced by Amtrak at this point.

I don't higher gas prices will have much, if any, impact on Amtrak. I voted stay the same.

I do think it will bring slightly higher ridership, especially on the NEC, but I don't think they'll do anything about it.

The Metro-North and Amtrak trains as well as the NYC subway lines I took yesterday seemed pretty full, even mid-day.

You forgot to include the possibility that Amtrak will increases its fares or add a surcharge to existing fares.

Yeah it is not a particularly well thought out poll and is confusing.

Amtrak likely has diesel contracted somewhat into the future, at least I would assume they would, someone on forum likely really knows.

I think travel will decrease due to people’s money being spent on essentials like food and gas to get to work. My costs are almost $1.00 a mile on fuel in a tractor trailer now so no way will freight that pays less than $5.00 a mile go the trailer. That’s going to raise the end customer cost but it has to be done so not to go broke.

Hard to say... things keep changing rapidly and no one knows what's gonna be next... lots of issues! Optimism is becoming hard to find...
