Hi All:
I took my first trip on Amtrak a couple of weeks ago, and loved it. My 10-yr-old son and I used the train to get to and from the start of a bike tour, and everything worked out great.
Except...
For our departures from both ROC and ALB, we tried to call a day or so ahead of time to make sure the stations would have two bike boxes available. For ROC, all I could get was an endless repeating message with the station hours, etc. For ALB, I could get absolutely no answer at all. When I called the USA-RAIL number to make sure I had the correct station phone numbers, they confirmed I was calling the right ones.
So - is this just standard at Amtrak stations? Do they really just never, ever answer the phone? In both cases, I tried every 10 minutes or so for literally hours, at various times of day.
Thanks,
- Rich
