The CIty of New Orleans equipment - if made into a single level trainsets - could interchange with the Lake Shore or Crescent in Chicago or New Orleans respectively, and thus exchange out equipment in NYC or be cycled there to/from Hialeah, FL. The City of New Orleans has recently been thrown in as part of the "eastern long distance train" discussion. I have questioned for a year or so whether Amtrak would convert the CONO or Capitol Limited. These trainsets were at one time single level, and only became outfitted with Superliner equipment when the Superliner II's came on the property. Allowed for more retirement of the Heritage equipment, the sleepers especially! CONO operates with one revenue Superliner sleeper and sells space in the Superliner Trans Dorm-Sleeper, so two Viewliner Sleepers should do the trick. If the Capitol Limited is converted to single level, hopefully it would finally get the through cars from the Pennsylvanian at Pittsburgh and be less challenged with two different equipment types!
