Hi All,

I was wondering if the dome was running as planned on the Adirondack, and if anyone knows how full it is? I was thinking of taking a trip up to Montreal next Saturday and wanted to make sure the dome is likely to run.

Thanks for the help!

I haven't heard any reports that it's not running.

But then I haven't seen any reports that it is.

However, in the absence of any contrary info, I would assume that the dome is indeed running as scheduled.

Yes it’s running but with metal panels now covering the front and rear facing windows. So the view is to the sides and overhead.......similar to what you would have in a Sightseer Lounge.

Here’s some nostalgia.......the Adirondack’s Dome when the train was inaugurated back in 1974.

the front facing windows are not covered. the center one might be, I don't remember. I rode the Adirondack two weeks ago and rode in the dome. I had a great time sitting right up front and looking out the window at the engine and the track ahead. we had a great ride and the views were wonderful. have fun!

i would definitely ride it if i were you! the set up of the windows looks like there is one in the center and two slightly angled on either side. i honestly can't remember if the center one is covered or not, but the two side ones are not. I sat in a great seat directly behind the front windows. the fact that i don't remember about the center window leads me to believe it didn't register as being a problem or a hindrance, whether it was covered or not. i took several photos out of the front window and was totally enthralled with seeing the engine and the tracks. you get a good idea of how much of the route is nestled into the trees!

Does the Amtrak Dome offer a similar view to this? (Park Car on VIA's Ocean)

Yes, except that at the moment, the center window is painted black. Which isn't really a problem; last year the space between the inner and outer glass was 3/4 full of water :(

you have to also bear in mind that the engine is directly in front of you and is taller than the coaches, so you don't have quite the same view as on via rail. close, but... :)

Painted black??? They changed it from one weekend back? When I rode it last weekend before last it was a shiny metal sheet.

The forward view at present is pretty limited. It might get fixed when it goes back to Beech Grove after the fall season.

My apologies, Jishnu. I must have misunderstood when I was told the view was blocked in the center. As I won't be on the dome until the 11/11 run, I'll be quiet :)
