The Kansas Department of Transportation and Amtrak are studying the possibility of expanding Amtrak service between Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, Texas.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said Monday that the study, which KDOT financed with $200,000, is expected to be completed sometime next year.
Remember Folks,

This is called a "Study" and who knows what, if anything will actually come of it! While this would be a neat service expansion, I don't see it happening without capital funds to buy new equipment!

Also, there need to be funds to upgrade the track and signalling system. One has to get the average speed to be as fast if not faster than the auto, otherwise people (non-railfans) will be reluctant to take the train. As the saying goes, "No Bucks -- No Buck Rogers."

More money is wasted with Amtrak and in other fields on these so-called "studies." I know in this particular case some kind of "study" has been going on for several years and I fear it will be several more before we see shovels turning to upgrade rail and eventually have trains rolling. One of the biggest professions and scams in this country is collecting money from studies.

Amen... the New Orleans to Baton Rouge corridor has been studied and test runned to death since the 1980's !!!

in this particular case, the state of kansas has at least added passenger rail to their 10-year transportation plan.

To put it in perspective, though, ten $200k studies probably cost very roughly what a single passenger car costs.

I know plenty of Kansans who don't even know that they still have passenger rail service.
