There was a website that I used years ago where you could enter all your train trips and it calulated the miles. Does that site still exist?

I just add them up trip-by-trip based on the paper time tables.
There was a site where you just checked the train and cities and it did it for you. I believe it even tied the miles to your signature here. The only problem is that it did not have discontinued trains. I agree that using the time tables is simple but someone went through all the trouble of adding all the tables to the site. It would be nice if the Amtrak site itself would show total miles after selecting a route for a reservation.

I would be better for me if I had done all the timetable stuff after each trip... but I did not. I agree it would be nice to have a place to just put in the trips i've taken, and see what they come up with a mileage total. I would not mind if it's a little bit off due to routing changes on some of the trips.

It's too bad Amtrak does not have a way to extract all the tables and stations in a digital format that could then be mined. The current schedules are all PDF files that are useless unless manually copied.

I remember that website and have lost the link as well. As you see in my signiture I log my end to end trips but not my short hops next town over trips.

There was a sub-forum area here on AU called MILES TRAK. It has been out of service since 2005 for technical reasons.

So how did you know you want to caluclate miles?

I have too many trips to remember them all.

Just go to the On Track On Line forum and register as a user, and then go to the Amtrak Mileage Tally forum and report your travels. The miles will be computed and tracked for you. Done manually by PRR60 but he has the whole thing setup with spreadsheets and all and provides some very interesting rolled up data per month, per year, YTD etc. too.
