So, at these hotels, it only costs me 250$/night instead of 300$. Wonderful. I think I'll still stick with the Best Westerns and Motel 6s of this world.

You can earn AGR points if you use your AGR mastercard. Kimpton has their own loyalty program called Kimpton InTouch which is pretty good. I believe you get a free night stay after ten nights. I travel on a regular basis for business and always, always pick a kimpton hotel first if its available.

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR, last month, a Kimpton hotel. After the rail discount the price was 119.00 a night, cheaper than anything else we were seeing. They also paid for our cab ride to the train station on departure.

What a nice hotel too! They are known for their colorful decor, it is a great atmosphere. Oh, another advantage was that we booked this stay online, and the reservation was cancellable. All the other hotels we looked at were non refundable, no flexibility.

This is an aside, but kind of a fun story, the first night we were in Portland we went walking out to find someplace to have dinner. It was a Sunday, late afternoon, and we saw so many restaurants everywhere, and they were almost all closed! I also have some dietary restrictions so we couldn't just go to the first pizza place or burger joint we saw.

Anyway we walked up and down, all around in circles and were getting a little discouraged (and less picky), when we saw a place we thought would work. Went in, ordered, after awhile I got up to find the ladies', and saw in the corridor a sign "To Hotel Lobby - - - >" looked at the carpet, thought, this looks familiar . . .

Went back to the table and took out our map, looked out the window at the street signs, looked at my boyfriend, "Do you think this is the restaurant of our hotel?" Figured it out looking at the map, and had a good laugh with our waitress over it.

Just to say, the Hotel Monaco in Portland has a decent restaurant, which we found out by accident!
